I'm not sure where you're gonna find a stock set. I don't recall having ever seen them for sale anywhere. You can't use the pulsar ones as they are too weak. Unless you find someone selling their old set, I think you'll have to get the ones from Race..

do you think if i get the race rods and use the stock pistons id have any problems? one reason i didnt want to get the race rods were cause all the people i know who bought the race rods have also bought pistons too and if i have to do that it would be out of my price range. anyways thanks for the help.

You'd be OK doing that. I wouldn't push the motor much as the pistons are the weak part of this motor. Can I ask why you don't have rods? Thats not a real common part to break on these motors...

FWD and RWD, DE and DET rods are identical, part# 12100-D4200.

the reason is i threw a rod and need to rebuild the engine. all i want is in terms of power is like 200-250hp. its a auto-x car so i dont need much power.

I thought the DE rods weren't forged? Or maybe I'm thinking of the CA20....

I sold my extra set of DET rods awhile back... too bad!

When I pulled apart my RWD CA18DE it was identical internally to a RWD CA18DET. crank girdle and rods were the exact same. The single difference is the piston oil squirters (well the pistons too, but thats pretty obvious). CA18ET's and USDM CA18DE's use thinner rods (and the CA20E rods are just pathetic)

Are you sure the USDM are different? 12100-D4200 IS the part# listed in USDM FAST for CA18DE and CA16DE. This is the same # as UK CA16/18DE/T motors also, and JDM as well. I have all three FAST systems on my computer, and I have cross-checked them in Parts Master as well as looking them up directly on the various vehicles. They are all the SAME part# 12100-D4200.

no i'm not 100% certain, but I have a pulsar FSM and a silvia FSM and the pictures of engine internals show pretty different sized rods. might just be an erroneous pictoral representation of size i suppose. if they truly are the same that would make my day. i'm kinda pissed i sold those rods now that i have a car i want to put my old CA into

Sean you're right in the fact that USDM CA16/18DE rods are not the same as the CA18DET rods. They are skinnier and the CA20 rods are hopeless. You'll need the CA18DET rods, the RWD CA18DE rods or I can sell you some extras that I have.

How are they different if Nissan has the EXACT SAME PART NUMBER WORLD WIDE FOR ALL CA16 and CA18 DOHC engines regardless of DE or DET, FWD, AWD, or RWD?

If they had different part #'s, then sure. If you've seen them actually different then something is either really ****ed up with Nissan and ALL their parts catalogs (and how are you going to get the right replacements then) OR something was wrong with the engines you saw. Neither seems likely.

Thats a rod that came out of a USDM CA16DE. Is the number the same as the JDM CA18DET?

maybe it's a USEM/JDM thing or a kouki/zenki thing but both my DET and DE rods are forged. They are S13 CA rods though, that must be why.
