Can someone be as nice to list out the limits of the Ca18det when it comes to RPMS and at what mods...

I am kinda wanting to know in stock trim can a C18det hit 8k with out causing premature engine failure.

Like with cams, springs etc what it would rev to.

I am just kinda interested in the CA18det and the Rb20det and I'm trying to make my choice.

COULD you hit 8k in stock trim? Probably, but you'll be making less power than you would be at say 6800-7000rpms. You'll be choked off before you get anywhere close to 8k. With a fully upgraded valvetrain 8-8.5 would probably be doable.

I am just comparing people in rb20 side talking about power at 8.5k

Didn't know if the ca18det was like that. I know it has a square R/S.

If you upgrade cams though hitting 8k should be no problem and power would be made there correct?

Also take in account that the turbo would be bigger and be able to supply the engine at the speed.

8k no problem. just make sure your turbo will be pushing enough air that high up. cams would help a lot too.

I know it was kinda of a odd question to ask. I just love the sound of a engine that can tickle 9k... I guess its the honda in me...

I am very stuck between which to choose Rb20det, Ca18det....

I just wanted to make sure a Ca18det could handle up to what im asking of the engine i choose.

so what are these plans? if you have enough money you shouldnt have any trouble with either. i adore my ca18 that has no power under 3500rpm, but ive also ridden in a 240 with a very lightly tuned rb20. the rb was freaking brutal.

Well, I was building a 500+ WHP 240sx back about a year ago then hard times fell and i had to sell everything. So I am going to pick up a 240sx coupe shell and start over. I will be buying a house with a garage in about 6 to 8 months so I'll have a place to put it and take my time.

I just, want a all round good car. The best I can make it in all aspects I really do not want to lean to much to one side or the other. ( Maybe drift )I was Ca18det because it sits further back in engine bay which = better handling but then its a 1.8 in a 2700 car :*(

Then I was thinking Rb20det but thats about 60 to 80lbs more over the front wheels. Though I get alot more potential.

The car will be a coupe and putting a Ca18det in it just sounds weird.

I just need to spend this next year talking to people about both engines and setups and see which one I like..

I cant stand the rb20det intake setup the way it runs over the engine like a 7mgte.

You say your car doesn't make power till 3500rpm? because of the engine size and being off boost :*( I am guessing.

Did you notice any difference in handling characteristics after the ca18det swap?

Many years ago, when I was just learning about engines, I used to rev my little CA16DE out to 8000 RPMs. Not all the time, but I quite a few times. Completely stock, somewhat high miles. I could feel it start to lose a little acceleration around 7000 RPMs, but it kept on going. I think 8200 was the highest I dared to push it... Eventually the head gasket blew. I don't know if it was from abusing it all the time, or just high miles. Maybe both I guess...

I have to say that, I cant lean to ether engine because to me they are both great engines. I guess thats why I am having hard time. They both offer things that I want...

I can't help the fact that I am a little in love with High revving engines...

I mean hearing a Rb25det or 26det take it to 8k or higher makes me crazy... ^_^

There is a video of a Skyline doing a pull and that car sound that scream ... its just increadable. Thats what I would love to have one day, I guess thats why I like the Ae86 with 5valve and ITB's those things sound like banshee

Here is the video,
