Hello,

I was wondering what is the probability that I would have to rebuild a CA18DET . The importer doesn't warranty any of their SR or CA engines so I wanted to know if I will most likely have to rebuild it?

Thanks

Mm...maybe have them give you compression numbers to give you a better idea? If they won't even do that i'd be skeptical..

I didn't rebuild mine. Hell, I have yet to do a compression test. But the motor started up fine, pulls fine, idles fine, dosen't eat coolant or oil, boosts well, and revvs fine. I think I am ok;)

Seriously though, its just the luck of the draw. YOu may a get a nugget of gold, or just a nugget of poo. A lot can be told from just popping off the valve covers and seeing how clean the cams are and what the remaining oil looks like (ie if there is any sludge in there) My cams looked damn near brand new...

rico05 - thanks for the info, I'll definitly do that. I really like the idea that 99% of the parts are available here in the states thats why I'd rather go with the CA18 vs. the SR. I know recently that the SR has had many importers for parts recently but it's easier going to AutoZone next to my house to pickup a timing belt, Goodyear gatorback for $20.

Also I've heard that swapping over to the CA18DE cams are a cheap upgrade. I that true?

btw, the engine that rico recommended on ebay ended very cheap...like 850 or so.
