so i has a ca18. and it started knocking a week and a half ago at a drift practice event. called a buddy and he came to the rescue with his truck and trailer.

so after i pulled the engine out and tore it down, i found that the #1 rodbearing had spun. not exactly sure why yet.

i had an extra rod so i disassembled the block. i took the block and crank to the machine shop. it should be done mid this week.

(getting block honed/cleaned and cranked turned etc.)

here are few pictures of the teardown.

so wile everything is torn apart i now have time to change some things up.

current mods consist of:arp studs cometic hgsr turbo (redtop)fmic

upgrades im looking at consist of:new engine mountsligtweight flywheelnew intercooler setupkoyoradnew gaskets etc all around.

so my block and crank isn't done yet... but i did get the new intercooler setup. my friend made it for his ca. i love the design.

He also had a koyo that was chopped a welded. it seems as-though its going to work perfect for my application. (he ran a honda style rad with this setup)

it still needs bracks made for the complete install. i also took apart the oilpump to clean. i found bearing particles inside, so iguess im in the market for a new pump aswell.

yea, ive heard of that. the headgasket looks good enough to reuse, but i am going to check the head when it comes time. i ended up selling my fmic for $130. it looked gross, but the power to money was very acceptable.

okay so pistons and head are on. waiting on an oil pump, pan gaskets, and f/r mains then that should wrap it up. the turbo still needs to be clocked.

Cause by the same problem in early RB26 motors. Too much oil goes to the head, bottom end starts starving out. Always happens to # 1 due to the pump sucking away all the oil. Happens after sustained high revs.

Solution : oil restrictors in head. Lgihter oil. More oil then when full (extra 500ml)

Or don't rev the crap out of your motor :P

Some RB26s guy tap in another drainbacck hole and plumb it to their sumps.

Good luck.

How do I know this? Happened to me and did a bunch of research :P Had friend that builds RBs for a living to concur

common places are the valve cover due to the half moon insert never being replaced

cam seals

main crank seals.

Other one i have had was oil pressure sender and oil cooler.

i didn't mention its coming from the back of the engine between engine/transmission. i replaced the head halfmoonies, and cam seals, new f/ main, but it's either the oil pan, or the rear main. im gonna tear into it tomorro at school on the lift and see what i can find. as soon as i get that solved, then it's going on the dyno and set to 10psi (so i don't hit fuel cut) then plans consist of nistune in the near future.

thanks for your information fleemer.

That fan of yours is doing nothing but wasting power with out a shroud to direct the air flow.

Either get a shrous, or an electric.
