Almost every gasket is same as the 88 Pulsar w/ CA18DE. Excpetions are the gaskets from the upper to lower intake manifold, .. thats all I can think of. Of course it won't have the turbo related gaskets..

Also, what do you mean by "blew a rod". If you mean you spun a rod bearing, the crank is useless.

Pistons are different compression ratio and the DE's are weaker, rods are the same I think. The crank may be fooked if the bearing is spun but you can replace it with a DE crank. the only difference in the blocks that can't be easily fixed by putting DET parts on the DE block is oil squirters. one of these days I want to get a blown DE block and try drilling the block to see if the oil passage is there..

thanks for all the help guys. where would be a good place to get stock ca18det rods? or what are good upgrades to consider? my goal in terms of power is not much just about 350whp(mainly meant for auto-x). thanks.

Basically what's happening is he's buying a CA18DET...that's blown a rod for CHEAP, includes wiring and stuff. Owner is going Tomei RB25DET into his S13 Silvia K, so he's selling the engine + everything not gonna be used on the RB25DET swap CHEAP (that might also include turbo + FMIC)

So...basically what we know is the engine has cracked a rod ro something, and we need to know where he can purchase pistons/rods and a crankshaft for the engine. Then we can have it rebuilt, blueprinted, balanced, and port-polished.

Then I would suggest just sourcing a crank from a DE and then going aftermarket with the rods and pistons. If you make it worth my while I could probably snag that crank on the DE I am getting the head from

You use the rod and main bearing for a DE as well. All this stuff is right in the FAQ sticky in this forum... or on http://www.ca18det.org

I recommend either OEM Nissan bearings or getting Federal Mogul bearings (they're quite nice), O'Reilly carries them ... Clevite I can tell you are ****e. as for other makers / stores not sure who carries what and what is good..

The Federal Mogul bearings are made in Japan

http://www.raceeng.com will have everything you need for new forged pistons and and forged rods. They keep them instock and the price isn't bad at all. They also have great customer service. I got my pistons from them and I'm VERY happy with the company. As for the crank, I'd buy the motorset, and pull the pan. That should tell you whether or not you need another crank or not.

thanks again for all the help. i swear you guys are the best in terms of support for your fellow CA owners or soon be owners :p. anyways i have one more question. the pistons in the CA, should i replace them when i get new rods? or is it okay to just re-use them. my goals in terms of HP like i said is a max of 300hp. and i dont wanna sound cheap but why pay for something your not going to use properly right? anyways thanks again for all the help .

This is where I got my new (DE) crank:

They were friendly and shipped pretty quickly.
