i was wondering if any of you have any information on or have seen this motor. i know it was installed in the RNU12 SSS-R Bluebird rally car (transverse 4WD), the 'R' means it has a bigger turbo and it was specified at 185PS. if the RB20DET-R is anything to go by it could have some seriously nice standard equipment capable of far greater power than specified. i have seen one of these cars but didn't get to have a look at the motor :(

FJ's aren't exactly rare here, the S12 photos posted in the FJ20 thread is from NZ. It ran a 10.8 with some development to come so there is no question it has lots of potential. And an Aussie S14 with a FJ has run a high 7s 1/4!I'm just interested in the DET-R because i like CA's and it seems to be the best factory version. The car comes with a close ratio and half cage from the factory plus some other improvements.

it's also 4wd and likely not a prodution car for sale to the public.. Any DET is fine they are all monolithic power generators built.

well it can't be that great, it's only 10ps over a plain jane CA18DET. The GTS-R R31 wasn't that great either. Sure it had a T04 and a nice manifold but the parts in it did not work together smoothly and the reveiws were poor on it. The CA is balls you can't go wrong either way:)

Then again, the CA itself makes 30 less HP than the SR. Why not just go with the SR instead? The potential of the engine might make it worth it. That's certainly why people go with the CA over the SR.

He didn't say that, read the last sentence again. The SR is a great motor compared to the other four bangers out there just not the CA.

I'd sell my CA and fit a Ford BDT (RS 200) engine, now that would be sweet. :D

But it cost too much :(

i hear you man. i saw a mk3 cortina GT with a cossie motor (2L DOHC turbo but not RS 200), really nice but the guy had spent a lot on it and a fj/ca/sr with that sort of investment would hose it.

If your talking about the Cosworth YB engine then I doubt the Nissan engines will hose it, its a fantastically strong engine and here in the U.K. tuning bits are very very common, it costs a hell of alot more here to mod a CA/SR they prices are rediculous. :(

nissans are cheaper and more common here. i have heard the cosworth motors are strong from the factory, any idea what sort of power they can produce on standard internals?

Well a common stage 1 upgrade is 330bhp and the crank is good for over 500bhp (BHP measured with the DIN measurement not the US SAE measurement) it produces a huge amount of torque compared to Japanese 4 cylinders and when its bored to 2.4 you tend to get more torque than bhp, its not a massivley high revving engine but its dirt cheap (comparitivley speaking) to modify and the support in the UK is huge.

I believe 350bhp is fine in standard internals but you may have to drop the CR.
