OK......so, i got a an 89 240sx "gifted" to me. Long story short, a friend moved out of the country and wanted to give it to a car loving friend. Ok, blah blah blah.

Now, the problem is.... I can start it and it will run and will rev to i think about 2k rpm-ish like it is in safe mode. Gauges do not work and the check engine light flashs in no particular order and brake light light on the dash is on. There is no maf on the car, i know this is a problem. I have 3 maf, stock ca18det, z32, and q45. I cant find any way to test these, alldata doesnt say anything. No harness is on the 5 wires going to the maf location. So i dont know where the wires would go? As far as i can tell, it a ca harness. I know it is a ca ecu. Unfortunatly, i didnt get a list of what is done to the car bc it was an unexpected move and he is very hard to reach bc he is in a diff country and hardly ever gets to a computer.

Now, its definatly a project! lol Im not scared to make my own harness or anyhting at this point. I dont have much to spend right now, trying to pay bills off.... But if there are any suggestions or other threads to point me towards, that would be great! Doesnt help ive hardly worked on nissans, and ex toyota tech and lots of honda and dsm buddies. lol

Oh, and also wonering about possibly getting rid of the maf and running map/speed density if possible?? Any suggestions.

Sorry bad typist! lol

I meant to say that there is no connector on the 5 wires that go to the maf sensor. I have seen z32 maf swaps, just not with a 5 wire harness like mine.

map sensor is possible, but you need standalone or other tuning fuctions.

think there was an HKS product that did so back in the day, but dont remember off the top of my head.

find a wiring diagram and wire in a maf to the ECU. simple enough and isnt expensive or hard to do either.

cluster and all that jazz is part or your lower body harness, going to have to sort that one out, or atleast a bit more of the story.

you can run the Q45 or Z32 mafs, but need tune or SAFC to run them properly. stick to the stocker then once you have the thing running, play with the bigger mafs.

btw, you will need a KADE tach for the kAE gauge cluster to fuction properly once you get things sorted out.

post some pics and lets see what we can help you work through.

cool, thanks. I would like to tes the stock maf if possible. I dont know if its any good. I would hate to put that on and still run like this and start chasing something else just to find out the maf is bad. Ya know??lol Thank you for the tach info. Unfortunatly, in little old ia there isnt many 240's laying around. lol

Like i said, im going off a blank sheet of paper here. Got the car w almost no info and prior to this i dont have much of a nissan background. So im new to this chassis and especially engine!

As Gabby said, the first step is going to be to wire up the stock CA MAFS. You'll have to locate a plug off of some other Nissan, or maybe eBay or something.

There really isn't any way to test it w/o the car running.
