now this is not one of thoes which is better which is more powerful or anything like that. this is a simple question of wich would be better price wise and all around practical. in other terms i was wondering would it be cheaper to just drop in a ca18det or to turbo my ka. now ive been looking aournd and not coming up wirh much. with turboing my ka what would i have to add, would i have to rebuild my motor, will it be all around better. or would it just be esaier and cheaper to buy a ca18det front clip and have it swaped over. anyway im probly going to get flamed for this but any info would be greatly apperciated. thanks guys and sry about spelling.

you can get some CA clips for really cheap and alot of the CA guys love their engines. They do have a cast iron bottom end you know and turbo is never bad, no matter your displacement.

Displacement's not bad either Compression-test your KA, if it checks out ok and doesn't have any oil leaks, etc. then it shouldn't need a rebuild, and could be cheaper to turbo than to swap out. (Assuming you use low-budget turbo parts, like junkyard stuff). You've probably seen the recent thread on the cost of KA-T.

If your KA is old( and in bad shape) you may need to do a rebuild. I've found that the CA is fairly cheaper than rebuilding and turboing a KA

Yes but I do find a lot of CA owners needing a rebuild too because these engines are old. I also tend to find CA owners having problems building big HP numbers. I wouldn't mind grabbing a KA24DE and turboing that one.

My CA came to me in perfect health. Also, Japan is a heavily populated country with a freaking awesome mass transit system, so lots of CAs come with low miles. Mine had verified 45k miles. I would say if you KA is all good, go KA-T. The CA will need to be swapped in (Not hard at all, but takes time). Both engines have their ups and downs, but both are better engines fundamentaly than the SR. But if I had to do it all over again, I would still do the CA

As much as I <3 the KA24E, I don't know about it being fundamentally better than SR. (Of course the CA is but that's a different matter )They both have crappy valvetrains and while the KA has more displacement and better stroke for a street turbo car, it has no oil squirters. Damn, that's all I can come up with....odd.Yay for SOHC Powah!

I find that turbo KA is more expensive, but the advantage is that you spend your money and get to pick what you want. If you want a bigger turbo, you get it, you don't have to buy another engine, then spend money for a turbo upgrade. If you are going for big power out of the KA, it's cheaper than going for big power out of anything else because you can do it all from the beginning, or at least you have the OPPORTUNITY to. For fun on more of a budget, I would go CA. Great engine, no doubt!
