Hey guys, i've been looking around on this forum for some time,as i was doing some research on the ca18, anyhow, i now have a 1988 nissan sentra with a ca18det engine in it, Just yesturday, i noticed that the car was not boosting it barely comes off vaccum but doesn't reach to 0 lbs or over.. the wastegate actuator does not respond either, i removed it an pressure tested it,and it's fine..the diaphragm is ok... what do you guys think?, so far i've checked for boost leaks where the ic pipes join etc..etc.. and havent found any... although i think i might double check it, but what else could be the problem.

Specs: Garrett T03( .48 back, .60 front), 444cc injectors, 2 1/2" exhaust, Fmic , 2 1/4" IC piping.

Looking forward to hearing your take on this problem, thanks in advanced,,

Hi Quantum! I would like to be the first to welcome you and your first post here on NICO. I'm going to help you as best I can, so here we go. Things to check for: Vacuum leaks (check everywhere) and re-check wastegate function. Since you said your vacuum gauge is not showing boost, it tells me that you're leaking air somewhere. Take your time and go over your car's plumbing well and I'm very sure you'll find the culprit.

Thanx man, i'll jump on it first thing tomorrow morning. I just bought this car and i'm restoring it to its former glory as the previous owner didn't have respect for the ca18 engine or the Nissan brand, so i'm just straightening out some stuff on the car, changing seals etc..etc.. so that it can be a head turner, as ppl in jamaica are not aware of the potential of a ca18 engine..and i would like to show them that, but i'm taking it one day at a time until i reach my goal, Looking forward to learn more than i've already learnt on this forum. Thanx again.

Not a problem. What gearbox are you using? My jamaican brethren here have respect for it. If you ever get a chance, post some pics of your car. It doesn't have to be show quality, but we'd love to see it as there are not too many CA powered sentras around. And lastly, I got a teaser for you. I have a 1991 B13 sentra with a CA18DET in it. The engine is still stock, but it's supporting cast is not and it will be coming to someone's track and some video footage soon. So far, it's the only one I know of anywhere in the U.S.

Yup.. i know that b13.. that is a monster..i saw a clip on streetfire once... i was going to do the ca18det swap in my b13, but the sr20 in the car died b4 i was able to gather all the parts for the ca18.. so i went with another sr20...

I'm not sure what the gearbox in the car came out of, but it's lsd and hydraulic clutch... which reminds me, what options do i have as it relates to clutch for the engine..as i was told that the rwd clutch would not work...

Pics coming up in a while..

** Problem Solved **

The Clamp that secures the silicone hose that attaches the ic piping to the Throttle Body was damaged so it was not tightening tight enough hence causing air to escape around that area.. i replaced the clamp and it's good to go again.. i don't see how i overlooked it but it's ok now... thanx
