Ok, so my CA18DET is on an engine stand with intake manifold off. I am using a leak down tester like this:
Not this exact one, but one similar to it.
So, I'm running 100 psi to the regulator, and running the second gauge to each spark plug hole. Once I open up the valve between the regulator and the monitored gauge I should see a difference in pressures yeh? Well, I'm reading about a 1 % loss in pressure. I don't think my engine is that perfect!! This is what has worried me.
So.... I moved my crank around so that I could get the valves to open up to see if I can get some air flowing out of the combustion chanber through the intake mani. when I do... all I get is a small spurt of air through the valves, and not a constant air flow.... like I assumed I should get. Also, when I move the pistons upward i can hear air leaking through my rings.
Do I need to let less air through the damper valve, instead of just opening it up to pure 100 psi?
I'm not sure where i'm going with this. I would just like some insight from anyone whos ever performed a similar test. Maybe my valve seats are no good, maybe its rings.
I appreciate any input. Thanks. JB
