My guess would be because its:a) Rare. you don't see an s12 everyday, let alone one with a ca18det in it.b) Sleeper. anyone whom had an s12 with a ca20e engine thinks they are slow. Having a old 85 s12 that can walk most muscle cars would be a blast.c) Nostalgia. My sister used to have one and I got to drive it quite often. I have many fond memories of that car. It may have been somewhat slow, but it handled very nicely. The seats were very comfortable to me, and the interior seemed realy nice for the time. Even though it may be dated now, its still a very nice car and has better interior quality than a lot of crap on the road today. I think it has more rear leg room that a s13.I've thought of doing something like this myself, but my fiancee threatened my manhood if I bought an s12 :x If I found an s12 with a manual transmission nearby for under $1000, I could buy it and park it down the street and just not tell her I have it. lolThere are a few s12's with the sr20det in them. The ca18det is a good choice though because the turbo model of that car was sold with a ca18et.Things to consider would be upgrades to the car other than the engine. There just isn't much of an aftermarket support for an s12. Most upgrades will be what you can get to fit from other cars with either lots of sweat and/or some fabrication.
