Do you guys think its a good idea to swap in a CA18DET into my 1992 Nissan 240sx? My reason for this is that I can get the motor at Osaka for 950 plus shipping so like 1150 shipped.

I can replace:

OEM complete rebuilt gasket set 200Clutch 300water pump 100boost controller 250turbo timer 150bov 200accessories belts 80timing belt 100FMIC +pipes 800tune up parts/hoses/etc 200hi flow fuel pump 100Koyo radiator 300electric fan 200

What else am I missing? This seems more cost effective for me but not sure if the CA18DET is the year comparable to the one in Japan. Or should I just save up a little bit more and get SR20DET for basically $2k shipped plus the list above and whatever I'm missing.

Could anyone please help me with what else I might need? Thanks alot!

The CA vs. SR debate has been going on for years, and will never be put to a rest. It all comes down to preference. If you don't plan on going very far with it, and will keep it mostly stock, then the SR might be the way to go. In stock form it's got a good 20-30hp on the CA. Parts are easier to get for the SR for the most part (although CA's are getting more attention from the aftermarket now, but still nothing like the SR). The CA revs easier, doesn't have the cooling problems the SR does, but tends to be older and not taken care of as well. If you don't get a CA from a reputable source, I would also plan on rebuilding it.

There is not right or wrong answer. The CA will fit in your car just as easily as the SR. The CA will prob be cheaper, as long as the motor is in decent shape, but in stock form you'll have a little less power.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. So... swapping it in a 92 year car is no biggy right? Cause the motor might be older than the car?

Not a problem at all. It's actually easier to swap it into a newer USDM S13, as the power steering lines are in the right place. The 89/90 USDM S13's had the power steering pump on the wrong side of the motor, placing the lines in the wrong spot.

Are you planing to buy from osakajdmmotors? If so... don't. I had a terrible time with them. When I got my engine it looked like it has been dropped (plus no wires). Call me if you want to know more.
