CA18DET I need some tips and tricks

Hey everyone I am pretty new on this board.

At the moment my 1990 240 is sitting in my garage with a dead motor.

I was wondering which companies I should look to for a good CA out of this list of em

well that is the list and basically i am looking for a front clip so unstable is out.

I know of flash options and Libero (sp?) and I do not want to order from them.

also wondering if anyone has a CA that they are looking to sell. I am located in washington. Its ok if it is a motorset as long as it is complete.

Avoid flashoptions like the plague...at least until the move to the US or this management change thing is behind them. Venus-Auto...you take your chances, some work out well, other's dont but they seem to stand behind their product to a certain degree. My recommendation: if possible find a local shop that will help look for a clip for you (even it means paying them a little extra) It's worth the extra money because then you have more recourse and it's easier to deal with someone 15 minutes away as opposed to 3 days away.

Also check out Afterdarktuning.com. From what I've heard daunt is reliable and I beleive he gets direct select of the engines he orders. (could be wrong) I beileve the store is located in cedar rapids, so that out of your way though. Just keep your eye open on the boards, new deals pop up all the time. Mike

my advice, buy from somone thats actually touched/petted a Ca18det ! go with someone whos got a reputation and has the financial resources to make right what might go wrong!

I have connections to one here with a mines ecu attached for $1800. A bit expensive, but if you want it I can help.

the thing is, Eli has a DEAD car, he needs an engine cheap and fast. He's low on cash, I believe he's even having to take a loan out, and his car is sitting at his house, it won't even start.

I told him to get a clip, since him and I are probably going to end up doing it, and unfortunitely, it's both of ours first engine swap, and I think the clip would bea better move. He also needs the radiator from it, and a couple other parts.

I still think Venus is fine, I just think their supplier gives them crap sometimes, but it's not like all of it is junk.

My two cents on Venus... We ordered both a CA18 clip and an H22 motorset from them. While both did have some minor broken parts Venus was more than willing to send us new ones as long as we provided them with pics of the broken parts. The replacement parts came to us quickly and at no additional cost. So in short I think that they are a good supplier.

Xero, why not suggest that your firend buy a few hundred dollar KA untill he can save enough money to do a proper swap, remember these things are 100% reliable , its more like 25% or lower in my case! and thats with a little bit of money i have to be fixing it

The time that the motor died on me was a little earlier than I planned but the thing is that I was planning on doing a swap anyways. Financially I have the money to do a proper swap nothing fancy basically everything to oem spec and then some. I was hoping that I could find somebody on this board that knew about some local shops around my area or a shop other than the super famous flash options or venus that carries clips.
