Ok, I've been following the forums for two months now and doing research on CA18DET swaps for a 86' 200SX. I'm trying to decide who to buy an engine from and how to get it here (Delaware). I see the turmoil from Venus but I havent seen anything too negative. I have found at least 4 places to purchase a 18DET motor from and I need a complete setup. What years are the best to get an engine and is there any particular model to stay away from? I'm going to buy a front clip if I can help it but I suppose I dont need everything from the clip. Is there any literature (and I've searched but not found anything all inclusive) on swapping these types of engines?

What I have is a 1986 200SX XE hatch with a very busted CA20E engine. (I found a rod thrown out of the block and laying in the frame!) The body is in fair shape and its not rusted to death. My first stage is purchasing a complete functional engine to swap. Do the accessories for these engines transfer over too, and what about going from RHD->LHD steering. Is there a difference in the setup? Right now, I need to figure who to purchase something with an OK warranty that wont leave me sitt'n in my driveway. It seems that the rest of the car works great but its got a lot of work to be had in the future.

Are there any difinitive parts lists with numbers or catalogs that I can refer to so I can buy pieces when needed and what other car's engines (I remember seeing somthing about pulsars) have parts that are compatible? I'd like to work on this swap with others who could be doing it at the same time and keep in contact with them so we can compare notes. I know that here and club-s12.org are about the only too bread and butter places to research this with others who have done the same. I'm going to try to get the engine running in the car with a budget of 2500.00.

I got mine from boost_boy on here, but it really came from http://www.justjaps.com Check them out. I paid 1700 (STUPID clean motor) and 200 to ship it to Cincinnati from Miami. Plus I got everything I needed minus the intercooler of course. But I got the motor, trans, shifter, starter, alternator, ps pump, ac compressor, turbo, intake piping, partial downpipe, FULL ecu harness, ecu, MAF, and injector resistor. I was pleased with it when it came.

I found that link doesnt work either.

I know that http://www.swapjdm.com works

http://www.afterdark-tuning.com/engines.html

http://venus-auto.com/inventory/nissan/engine.htm

http://www.sssautomotive.com.au/welcome.htm

http://flashoptions.com/

http://www.heavythrottle.com/

http://www.jgycustoms.com/motors/rts13.htm

all work too..I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting....

Now my biggest problem is finding a reputable seller and determining which frigg'n years are best for my 86 200SX Xe.

If anyone has any opinions/advice on this for my car, please let me know. I'm leaning towards venus auto, but I'm shopping around places in Fl. and Ind. I need to know what other parts to consider so that I can swap and get it cranked up. I cant find any difinitive guides to things like the ECU (year differences) and what parts are swappable with what... I see a lot of theories and very custom work. I'm interested in plug and pray if possible with the tuning stages after I get it in drivable condition.

Any experiences here with heavy throttle out of NY? I live in DE so I'm contemplating using them and driving to get the motor.

thats the way to do it man! go see the motor in person and inspect it good! thats the best way to ensure quality...I wish I'd had that option when I bought my motor.

I just got SS Brake lines and Rotors from them and I'm very happy with them. We had a little mix up with what exactly I wanted, but they took care of me very well. I HIGHLY reccommend them to everyone.
