Hi,

I have a 20 year old motor which I want to rebuild and replace as much as I can. I had a thought today - what can I do with the old harness? It was in working condition, but didn't look that reliable. Can I replace it with a re-wired ka24de harness? are there any other solutions?

Any help appreciated

perhaps I can replace the lower harness with the oem ka24de harness (found here - http://www.frsport.com/Genuine....html) and just re-wire the knock sensor?

if that'll work, than what can be done to the upper harness?

What part of the harness looks like it is not reliable? is it the wiring itself or is it the sensors? harness connectors?

I am saying this because there really is not an easy way to replace your harness. If you think your wiring is looking old and you want to replace it, you can replace each individual wire with new wires but that is going to be very time consuming. if it looks like the sensors need replacing then replace the sensors. The CA18 really doensn't have a OEM Replacement for those wires without getting another better looking harness off another CA18, or rebuilding your own.

If you are worried about it, go thru your harness, clean it up, and check for frays, cracks and hard bends and replace the parts that are old and worn.

unless there is a new development that I have missed.

the overall view. bunch of wires sticking out of the relay boxes (auto->manual swap by idiots, i guess), connectors (plugs, or whatever they're called)...maybe a good clean up will help, but then again, if something doesn't look reliable - i want it replaced...

so the ka24de lower harness won't work?

if there is no replacement for the upper harness, then I'll have to get in re-wired completely...

is this just a stupid idea or something worth spending time on?

like i said, if you dont think it is reliable, go thru each wire and see if there is any dry rot or cracking. if there is replace it.

I am not sure about the lower harness for the KA.

few more noob questions - how exactly is the harness cleaned up? with a cloth and nothing else?

and regarding replacing - cut out the rotted or cracked part and solder in a new wire?

how did you solve the knock sensor issue? additional screened wire to the ECU directly?
