Yeah I would class the front pulley as a vibration damper, I remember the one on my old 320i BMW it was like a brake disc bolted to the front of the crank!

yea there is one fer sureits the bottom pulley on the crankshaft is has 3 belt grooves

when you get your engines balanced you dont include this? or am i misunderstanding you

when you actually pul one apart they are a dampening device.

Ahh, your talking about the front pulley, normally they don't break, except u use a big hammer to get it of (like i did one time).AFAIK u should balance the whole crank assembly together(front pulley, crank, flywheel and clutch cover), to achieve the optimum.

chezina, it didnt break actually it came loose.. we are at a loss to why but we have implemented a better locking and holding arrangment for it this time. BTW no big hammers were used :D

i was just wondering whether anyone else had this problem...

as for balancing you are correct that is how our was done.

we machined one apart to see how much strength was in it etc. trying to figure out why it came loose.

yes it was locktite'd and tightened to correct torque :)

Yes I had a front pulley/vibration damper come loose and it was also torqued and thread locked, it ruined the woodruff key slot in the crank.

thats no goodours only wrecked the woodruff key and the balancer

luckily the crank was okdid you notice that pully only fits on halfway on the end of the crank?its a strange thing having that weight right out that far...did you find a solution?

Not really, I had a spare engine so I got the new pulley/crank/flywheel/clutch cover all balanced up again and fitted it all back in.
