Well i am a Honda guy that may branch into the 240's. I just got a coupe and I am considering the CA18DET. Most of my friends and people i talk to prefer the SR20. But I like the CA with its iron block and US parts available.

What is the max boost that the CA can take on stock fuel system also 14.7psi/1bar?

And with a minor bolt ons(exh, bov, fmic) and 12psi, what should the car be capable hp wise and 1/4?

And do the CA's run hot???? Thanks any help right now would be appreciated

I personally wouldn't push the stock fuel system past 10-12psi. But I'm a better safe than sorry kinda guy.

HP rating vary but you should be in the 250hp range

no, they don't run hot (at least not like some cars I've had)

I would say in that , ummmm low 14's high 13's and if you're good, possibly low 13s.Quote »And do the CA's run hot???? [/quote] With no water in the radiator, yeah! Keep coolant in your radiator and you should be just fine.

Most people with SRs belive the hype, I dont. Im not saying there not good motors, But they are just not for me. The reason I chose an CA was becosue I tend to break stuff and I like to be able to get parts. Plus the WTF factor when I pop my hood is gonna be nice.

I got it cuz I'm a looser and I've spent toooo many hours reasearching. My research brought me to the CA. It's not for everyone. Most CA owners don't want everyone to know about it. It's kind of an exclusive club kinda thing. We're special, short bus special, and we know it. The, "Don't try and take our lunch money cuz my crazy azz rides the short bus to school" kinda special.

When you own a turbo car you'll learn one important concept.. tuning. Without it, you're just another guy bolting on parts to a car that will blow up. Learn about fuel systems, A/F ratios, and you'll have a long happy turbo car life. Otherwise you'll end up selling you **** when it blows up and blame the car/motor.

This guy is a freakin' poet of the nissan forgottens. That piece was nice and plays a sweet, but sad song for CA18 owners. And you are so correct.Quote »When you own a turbo car you'll learn one important concept.. tuning. Without it, you're just another guy bolting on parts to a car that will blow up. And the good thing is everyone has some knowledge about the do's and the don'ts in performance. But most are hard-headed and must find out for themselves. One don't is stay away from the hype. One do is buy a CA18 and blow it up knowing you can rebuild it; not buy a new engine because of material (block/rocker arm) failure. The CA18 will give you unprecedented service if your expectations of the parts you have on your engine does not exceed their limitations. The idea is simple, but the choice is strictly up to you all. Test this theory and you will be asking me for another motor and I can only promise this. Spend some money on quality stuff and raise your expectations; save your money and turn up the boost on your stock system and I'll be happy to sell anyone another motor. :thinker

i dunno if you can just say that about turbo cars. i believe if you're building an all motor beast, especially hondas and other such high strung motors, tuning is just important.and then there are muscle cars... yeah. :rolleyes :pface

i know that realllly well! and also, the ca wont overheat unless youve got no coolant in it, like i did. yep, that was me Dee was talking about (regardless of if you meant to or not). any questions about what will and what wont kill the CA18DET im sure i can answer, most from firsthand experience (and it hasnt failed me yet!!)

like when people tell you to replace the turbo when the motor is out of the car, or to replace the powersteering lines when the motor is out of the car. Oh wait, thats me....

Anyone listening out there? Can you hear us now? Change the turbo before you put the motor in your car (if you can afford to) or you'll be sorry. I'm going to sell my built engine for $500. Anyone interested?:help (Frickin' cheap-skates):D .

Ummm, boys we do know that I'm just kidding correct! Float, you cheap bastard, what's with this $500 shipped thing? The rods alone were $742. The renotching of the Wiseco pistons cost $100 and the pistons were like $400+....And let's not even talk about machine work, JUN cams, JUN solid lifters, JUN valve springs, Nismo headgasket, adjustable cam gears, ARP head studs, ARP main studs, all new bearings and seals, head ported and polished, new timing belt, new timing, belt tensioner, new oil pump and just think, I haven't even discussed turbocharger, both intake and exhaust manifold and all the goodies associated with these things like the 1000cc injectors or SDS fuel management system or the MSD DIS-2 or even the hybrid Trannywith the custom axles. I'm sorry for rambling guys, please forgive me:D and no I'm not trying to show off what I got because I had this crap for a while, just need to put it all in motion.

Dee $500? HAHAHAHA:D you got jokes.

Change the clutch while the motor is out of the car... i couldnt get a transmission back in to a mounted motor to save my life (or my wallet). Is changing a turbo inside the car that bad? because i might as well get a bigger one wand hold of on putting the motor in.. but the turbo on my motor spins REALLY freely and i cant tell if there is any play or not....

then you might be ok. its just a pain to change it while its in the car, i did and believe me you would much rather do it while the engine is out. theres a good chance that your turbo is fine if you cant see anything wrong with it. good luck with the car.
