Hi Guys,

This is my first post on here, I have been directed to your forum from a member of Driftworks Forum. I am currently planning on putting a CA18DET in my BMW E36. I have inherited an engine from a friend as he put a hole in his block last week. I was planning on just having the engine off him to rebuild for fun and to learn how to rebuild an engine. But someone suggested putting it in the E36 which I like the idea of.

My question is this..... I have never stripped or rebuilt an engine before on my own and cannot seem to find any threads anywhere of a step by step (noob) guide on how to go about this for the CA18DET. Is there anyone on here who can offer any advise or has a link to somewhere that might have such a guide?

Thank you,

Steve

First off, welcome to NICO! Just about anything you might want to know is located here;
read-this-before-posting-faq-links-and- ... 36061.html

There you will find a link to the FSM (Factory Service Manual). The FSM has EVERYTHING you could want/need to know about the CA18DET and instructions on how to tear down, rebuild, and re-assemble this engine.

If there is anything else you need, please feel free to post up and ask!

Hi float_6969,

Thanks for the info, I'll have a read through this tonight :). I'm sure I'll be relying on you guys a lot over this build as you seem to know your stuff :).

OK, try it now. The admin team moved them. I just fixed the link, so it should work now.

Works like a charm mate. Thank you very much.

I have had a quick flick through and I'll have a proper read tomorrow.
