I got an AWD transmission with my engine. Now Ive heard some pretty scary horror stories about gears blowing up and such so here's the conclusion I came to. The city I live in is Honda city. Nissans arent that big and JDM engines are EXTREMELY rare here. In a city of well over 650,000 people, there are only 6 imported Nissan engines. I was originally going to sell the AWD transmission instead of converting my FWD to AWD cause of all the work. In a city that has only 2 other CA18DET's, I can gaurntee that they wouldn't wanna buy the transmission. I pretty much came to the senses that I can tear out all the gearing on the AWD and sell the housing to a scrap yard.

Is the gearing the same between the FWD and AWD transmission??

That's the main question I was getting at, sorry it took so long, lol.

I'm pretty sure they are not.

You can pull the input and out put shafts out and fit them to a fwd transmission. You might have to change the output gear.

You are gonna have to pull it apart anyway as you will get 3 times the money if you take straight alloy to the scrappers and it will be interesting for ya to strip it down.

on each gear you count the number of teeth on the input shaft and divide by the number of teeth on the output shaft to get your gear ratios.

I don't know much about the FWD CA's, but I assume it's next to impossible to do an AWD conversion?

You can convert a fwd to awd. It has been done at least once in australia. You just need to muck around with the rear mounts, and use all the awd running gear including the fuel tank.

I would like to try it on a s13. You would need an awd skyline running gear to do it. I have seen plenty of rwd rb20 an 25 ones done. You could even use the running gear and modify the bellhousing to fit the ca, but it would start getting expensive

it wouldnt be hard to me to get a rear diff in the city here along with drive shaft, it's just the price. also, there's no use in doing it since I will have next to no gain for all the added weight

If you are going from fwd to awd,it can be done.I saw a car,I think it was on this site or another nissan board that was an 80-something pulsar that was black with a cloth snap on top that a guy did.Now if you are talkin rwd to awd in a skyline, maybe with lots of elbow grease and a torch,in a s-13 good luck cause you'll need it.

I saw one S13 eGhey with with an RB26DETT with the AWD mechanically hooked up. All he had left was the wiring portion of it, but he had to ditch the project for whatever reason.
