Car: 1989 240sx ca18det swap

Post

I bought a 1989 240sx with the ca18det swap without the wiring finished 2 months ago for dirt cheap. I did all the wiring and 2 days later I had a clean swap. But it an auto!!! anyone know what the hp limits are on the auto? I'm planning a manual swap soon but have a spare turbo laying around and some dsm injectors that are just askin to be put on, but i dont want to snap some bands in the transmission and then have nothin. A link woud suffice if anything thanks

I'm using an auto, and from what the aussies tell me they're closly related to the Z32 transmission. They're supposed to be pretty beffy (lord, they're heavy). Holds boost very well though... If you're swapping, I may be interested in the "slushbox". Tell me a price.

This is good to hear, beause Im thinking of doing a auto ca18 swap (since my car is currently auto and I have to pay for major things like engine swaps and 5sp conversions)

its a big transmission. Looks just like the ka auto. My ca s13 is auto. Great in stop/go traffic. Still fun when u nail it.http://www.nissansilvia.comtech forums have several threads on 'bumped up' auto transmission performance behind ca18. From memory, they go valve body mods or a kit ? Converter next on the list. 1st mod should be a cooler in any event.Should be able to find similar mods/info here in u.s.

Auto isnt' that great (in my experience).

My car was originally Auto... till it started slipping...

So replaced gearbox with another auto one, but after a while it started clunking from 1st to 2nd.

Replaced with a Manual Box (Converted to Manual) and now runs great :D

Yeah, once you hit high hp. #'s, the transmission won't hold up as much. This is why Supras' use Turbo Hydramatic 400 trasmissions. Some of the fastest in the world. But for light bolt on's, it works just fine. Granted, you don't have the launch of a 5sp. but you also don't have the loss of traction or boost. My transmission feels great from 1st to 2nd, as if it already has a shift kit.Hit's you right in the back! I'm using a trans-cooler as well. Another good feature b/c it allows you to use a 5sp. KOYO radiator. Best of luck!

Thats good to hear. When I do the 5 speed swap if your still interested in it I will let it go for cheap since i dont know what exactly its worth. Probibly 200 or less, shoot me an offer [email protected]. Will include the torque converter. Also if anyone needs a an auto shifter or shift linkage for an auto let me know

if you leave with boost, an auto transmission will dust most 5spds.Japanese auto trannys can hold up to hot motors if moded. You'll have to search out the few folks that modify this particular transmission. I'm sure u can find folks in the u.s. who can.For example; a 1jz powered street cressida on toyomods runs 10.4sec thru its modified stock toyota transmission - perfect street performance.

My motor was stock when I had my auto gearboxes and they still were crap :P

Manual Sports Car gives such a more rewarding driving experience imo.

Talk about raising the dead :welcome: to NICO and it's CA/CA18DET section. I take it you've used the search function already and that's a good start, but I don't think this member posts here anymore.

If you have the CA18DET in your car, the Ka's wiring should work. If you have the KA24DE in your car, but want to use the CA18's autobox, the bell housings can be swapped. Either way, you should be able to use one or the other, though I don't fully understand what you are trying to do.

I would like to use the ka auto trans that is still in the car if it will make wiring easier or delete it all together to make the motor swapping part a breeze

I understand swapping bell housing to make the ka trans work my question is the making it work with the ca motor would I be mating any part of the ka trans harness with the ca harness

There should be very little differences between the two harnesses. You should be able to make whatever combination work with whatever you want to do. You would have to do some comparisons on your own as I only have the CA auto trannies, but I don't see why it shouldn't work.
