Hey guys, I know there is a WTB section in the classifieds, and I have posted in there but not getting the response I had hoped for. So....I really need a working RWD CA18det alternator and quick.

I have troubleshot absolutely everything I can think of and can not get my alternator to charge the battery.
I have replaced the battery with a brand new one, which I relocated to the trunk. Checked continuity on all connections, everything was good. I checked the fusible link in the black box under the hood=it was good. I even took my instrument cluster out and checked the battery bulb, it was good. But when I start the car, the battery is not getting a charge from the alternator. So I checked the output voltage on the alternator with the car running, came back at ~ 1volt, should be 13.5-14V, right?

Anyone have any ideas? I think it is a bad alternator, even though it did test "good" when I took it to a local shop. :gotme
Anyone have a good alternator they can sell me? Located in 37379, TN.

Thanks

Just take it to a local alternator shop and have it rebuilt. You will get the peace of mind that your alternator will last a long time, it will be relatively inexpensive, and you will probably have it back within a day or two. Trust me on this one.

I'll sell you one of mine if you don't have access to a rebuilder, but keep in mind these are a bit rare and I would definitely need yours sent to me as a core. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in and we'll go from there.

Thanks for the responses guys. Dee, I may take you up on swapping yours for mine, but I am gonna check on a rebuild first, based on waht you guys are saying. What all needs to be "rebuilt"? Do I just need to tell them to swap out the brushes and/or windings, or what?

Also, based on my troubleshooting I described above, can you guys think of ANYTHING else it could be other than a bad alternator? I feel like I covered all my bases. Comments?

Dee, how much cash would you be looking to get for swapping alternators with me, including shipping to 37379? Thanks

I dont even know. I just took my non-working alternator down to the alternator shop, handed it to Cletus and said "make it work." Had it back in 24 hours and it works great. It even puts out more amperage now. It cost me $80 even.

I got a GM truck alternator on mine, but it probably would have just been easier to just have the old one rebuilt what with modifying my bracket and all.

But if this one fails, I can get one at Pick N Pull for $25...

dee, got your PM. Thanks for that. For some reason it won't let me PM you back.
I am going to check here at a local shop and see what they will charge for a rebuild. I will get back to you after I do that. Thanks so much for being willing to go out of your way to help me out.
