okay so this never ending SAGA continues, i am continuously on a quest to find parts.

so, today i have a few questions for you CA guys/girls on nico.

1) does anyone know of any palaces or destributors that sel lightweight ca crank pulleys? brands? names?

2) does anyone happen to have a good condition crank pulley laying arround because i REALLY need one at this moment, i went to start my timing belt and water pump mission today, first started at removing the water pump then moved over to the belt cover plate, removed that then started at the crank pulley, JUST WOLD NOT COME OFF, no budging what so ever so DUMMY ME decided to wack it with a hammer to try and budge it, and whats the first this that happens, a HUGE piece comes flying off, BUT IT BUDGED, so i did it over and over until the whole backing of the pulley was looking like SHARK ATTACK #3 :( i was saddened, so yeah this is why i need one, could you guys serriously help me out, this swap has been put on hold for farr too long, so any help would be nice.

thanks

brandon

After further probing into this lightweight pulley ordeal, I've concluded it might be wise to keep what you got. The stock pulley is fine and the stock flywheel can be machined-down 5lbs lighter.

i have interest in a aftermarket pulley too. my crank pulley only needs to run the alternater, so if i could get a single belt pulley it would be great, i need all the room i could get.

Yes they are the same, the AWD is the same as as FWD and RWD, The only thing that could be different, is that the RWD pully sometime has an extra belt grooves for the A/c, but if you don't care about the A/C ,then the pullys are the same, I got some pics of all of them, if you want to see them, email me and I will send them to you guys.

Thanks,

But if you plan on keeping all accessories, get in contact with nismo1182 or I could definitely get one for you like last night. Whatever you decide, I'm pretty sure that someone in here can assist you.

Hey ca18datsun510, I'm thinking the same thing about the room.I took mine into Tech, and machined off the front 2 pulley's....only problem was that they were what connected the rear pulley to the centre hub!so then i had to spend an extra few hours than expected, re-machining them, and made up a spacer to fit between the hub and the inside of the pulley.made it so it was a press fit, and pressed it in with some permanent lock-tite.only problem is, you need another pulley to reference from, so that you get the pulley the exact right offset, or you will chew up your belts real fast, and/or the belt falling off.you then need to get a degree wheel, find exact TDC, then make some new marks in the pulley for timing. paint black over the old ones to avoid confusion.

It's probably far too much effort to go through, just to get rid of the front 2 pulleys!and probably not the best idea either....but I had to do it, cause by the time I found out, it was too late

you have to be careful when maching this pully there is not a lot to play with and you can break right through making 2 pieces rendering it useless.i have never found anyone making aftermarket lightweight pullys yet

becareful when machining you don't disturb the balance of the pulley. It does have a rubber dampener and it would have much easier to just get a FWD pulley in which there a few available around here.

boost_boy you are right about the balance it should be re-balanced with the engine crank etc.

The Ca18 is the wrong engine to have out of balance because you will chew up rod bearings like lunch.

what happens if you snap the bolt head from the flywheel bolts.?? after taking off my flywheel i decided to just put the bolts back into the threads, one of the threads didnt screw in nicly so i can just went thru it, turned the ratchet back and after a few turns the bolt head broke, leaving a nicly sized stud sticking out!

and i really dont knoe what to do???

Remove the broken stud, make sure to lube all threads before installing new flywheel bolts. Would be very wise for you to go buy flywheel bolts. I've seen ARP flywheel bolts let go and the results were not pretty.
