It appears my ca18det has a bad bearing. I'm thinking if it is a good idea to get a ca18de block + intake mani drop it in and use the ca18det exhaust manifold, turbo, ecu, harness and 02sensor. What else might be needed? Can i use the et harness, ecu, turbo etc on the de block and intake easily?I have modest power goals and just want to get going for now, without shelling out too much. I know its a higher compression, so how long will i have till it blows too, and how much of a difference does the piston oil squirters make? The other option is ofcourse to get a ca18det engine, if the na+t is too much trouble.A rebuild is going to cost a whole lot more even for a stock rebuild and i don't think i can justify it right now, though it is the most reliable.

Take the crank out of the CA18DE and throw it into your DET. You can boost the DE as long as you keep it under 10psi as well as retarding your base timing to 12 degree instead of the standard 15.

Did u mean take the de crank(inside the block) or the crank angle sensor? I have a s13 wired for a ca18det. Is putting the de block in a straightforward procedure? Would i just put the de block and intake-manifold in and add the det exhaust-manifold + turbo & use the existing det harness, ecu, igniter, resister etc.

adding a turbo to a N.A engine is alot more work than its worth.way too much time and money.as said just take the crank from the N.A block and replace the one in the DET.

depends on how "bad" is the (rod, I assume) bearing If the rod big end is out of round, another crank won't fix that

Dr Drift posted interesting info on boosted CA18DEs, some impressive. One they 'pushed' had shaved down stock DE pistons. I've read of several hi boosted

oz/nz cars (various makes) modifying their normally aspirated pistons likewise.

I'm not too sure whats wrong with it. It was poorly swapped in and hasn't run well, sputters, misfires & sounds like its running on 2or3 cylinders & its got no power. Its loud as hell too. Took it to a shop where they said that it sounds like a bearing is gone. So i'll take a second opinion and then maybe get another ca18det motor only and drop it in or rebuild it for twice as much. Almost hating ca's now, was always being told to go sr now i think that would've been a lot cheaper.

You're in Canada, so it shouldn't be a problem to acquire another DET. That " I should've went SR" is frustration. SRs have issues as well.
