How much power can I get out of a CA18DE.Saying that I already Had obtained one in good condition and II had a 240sx in goodcondition. My budget is 15,000.

Mad scientist, how much are you expecting out of your CA18DE and are you spending a lot or are they mostly junkyard parts?

I pulled 150hp out of my old DE with an HKS header, HKS 60mm muffler, Blitz air filter and Apexi SAFC. A maximum effort CA18DE non-turbo could make it to the 200s It is low on torque though with such a small displacement. It has a narrow powerband in the upper RPM reaches. If I was going to go full tilt NA I would seriously look at the KA24.

yup. I have the latest issue of CARBOY on my desk, hot nihon-honey on the cover in front of the Endless R34 track car. Flip to page138 to the standings from a drag meeting up in mainland(god I would kill for a real dragstip on Okinawa!!!).let's look at some standings

I will just point out the winners first in each engine class

RB26 in an R33 GT-R 9.201RB25 in an R32 Skyline 10.257RB20 in an R32 Skyline 11.699SR20 in a 180SX 9.922CA18 in a Silvia 10.763FJ20 in an R30 Skyline 10.972VG30 in a Z32 300ZX 10.429L turbo in a 240Z 10.185

Now two NAs that remind us that turbo is not the only avenue to power and speed

VG30 NA in a Z32 11.374L NA in a 240Z 11.404

These #s should fuel some spirited debates across the engine boards :evilhaha

ca18 is a good motor...descent power...does this motor drop into an s13...its obviously cheaper than an sr20...you dont get as much hp or torque and the potential is a bit lower...but is it a compatible swap????

it did come in a JDM silvia J in the same years as the DET. If you weren't doing any major mods too it I wouldn't think it would be worth it

a tight motor with good compression will net you between 140-150hp with basic boltons. Bump up the compression, throw some cams in and have the head worked and 200hp is within reach. It's a revver though with a narrow powerband.
