Happy New Year's eve everyone!(well it may be NYD over the pond for some, IDK)

Anyhow, this is my first post here to Nico so bear with me.

I just recently acquired my first CA, and I'm in the process of tearing it down and rebuilding the bottom end. (had a knock)

I found the problem, and that was a spun rod bearing in #3, and a (small) defect on journal of main#2

Well that being said, I'm taking the crank down to be machined back to life, but I also need to make sure the rods are all ok. If I need to replace rods, can I use CA18DE rods as replacements?

I know someone is going to say search, but I've done that and all I get is information about CA20-> hybrid information. While that's neat and useful to someone making a stroked motor, I'm not that guy.

I just needed to know if the rods are the same length, and I can't find that information. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

If I remember correctly, they're the same length and same bearing journal diameter but the similarities end there. The DET rods use free floating wrist bushing while the DE use press fit wrist pins. Don't recall if the actual wrist pins are the same diamter. DET rods are much beefier/stronger as well.

see, funny apart about that is that if I showed you a picture of my de and det rods... you couldn't tell them apart. I had also heard that wrist pin thing in the past, but trust me... both de and det ones have c clips and gotta be lightly tapped with a hammer to come out of the rod. far as I can tell with a side by side comparison, they are the same.

Maybe you could have each of the rods weighed. If there's no appreciable difference in weight you should be good to go.

Well after a few days of gathering info from some other sites...

The CA18DE/DET share the same rod length (i dont know about the rodpins, other than the EXACT same dimensions are published in the NISSAN n12/s13 FSM for both DE and DET motors)

Also, the CA16DE shares the same Rod. How about them apples? In fact, the CA16DE block is dimensionally identical (save the smaller bore)

Given all that new information, I think (and i could be wrong by a mile here) the only difference is the piston in the CA18DE/CA18DET lower rotating assembly.

I know this was from the start of the month, but I thought i would add that i actually swapped my de and det rods... u cant tell the difference.
