im not sure about the cluster, but i've read and actually seen people use the SOHC lines with an RB20DET, so it is possible. but it'll take some fabrication.

It should work fine, but you MIGHT have a problem with the tach. If you do, you'll have to get a tach from a DOHC S13 w/HUD (the non-HUD tach's aren't the same size, so you can't use them)

As for the PS lines, it's MUCH easier if you use the DOHC lines. I think the SOHC lines can be persuaded to work, but prob not worth the trouble.

couldn't he also get a non-HUD cluster w/ the harness and have that work (if need be).

DOHC lines FTW

yeah but im pretty sure he wants to be able to use the HUD still...if he doesnt, this threat is pointless, get a regular DOHC cluster and be on ur mary way...

SOHC tach signal is 6V, DOHC is 12V. You can dissassemble an analog DOHC tach, and swap it into your SOHC HUD cluster using your SOHC gauge face and needle and have it work. Or ive heard of someone soldering a resistor somewhere onto the circuit board to change the 6V SOHC tach signal to the DOHC's 12V. But i did the dissassemble and it works great.

I just got a DOHC HUD setup when I did mine. And yes, you need to run a HUD instrument cluster because it is 1000x more awesome. I laff at all the peasants with analog gauge clusters.

I see a "wierd little square" on HUD windshields... I imagine this is necessary for the projection to work ?What do replacement windshields cost, or is junkyard your only option/best bet ?I know where a shell sits with HUD, but glasss is cracked. My latest CA18 S13 already has a broken winshield, so was considering HUD.

got a NX2000 digital cluster to attempt in my CA18 corolla. Looks cool to me

HUD windshields are a lot more expensive I believe, and since they are held in with polyurethane they are very hard to remove without breaking the windshield during the process.

You do not need the square thing for the display to work properly, though the image does get a little bit glare-tastic at times. You can see it just fine during the day, and very well at night, so it has never bothered me. I actually rarely use it, as the digital speedo in the cluster gets me all hot and bothered on its own. The white display is much easier on the eyes than the green HUD anyway.
