my ka-e has just given up on me so i am preparing for the ca install, i am getting some help from friends who have done the sr swap and i am also going by shift 180.

i was wondering if this sounds right.

ca18 motor set w/ sidemountnew clutchwater pumpwalboro fuel pumpspark plugsbeltsnew radiator hosesoil filterfuel filter (300zx)

what about a thermostat? does the nismo ka/sr one fit? I was reading and there is a 82 degree C one, but the nismo is much lower.

if my motorset doesnt come with one then a downpipe, should i also get an exhaust?

Are new gaskets a must (valve cover, turbo etc..)

I already have a koyo for the ka24 and the radiator entrance/exit is on the same side so that will work, and i have electric fans.

I also want to adjust the sidemount to position it in the front, maybe get the sr s14 hot pipe, stock intercooler, and custom cold pipes.

For recuirulating the bov ( for those of you with aftermarket intercooler), where do you put the other side of the tube, is it still on the hot side?

thanks alot and please let me know if i am missing anything.

oh yah, a boost gauge also and a ca18 gauge cluster.

thanks

if you stay stock boost you dont need to upgrade the fuel pump

here are my recommended items:timing beltcam/crank sealstiming gear for crank shaft (if you intend on doing the crank seal)timing belt tensioner would be a good idearear main sealvalve cover gasketslots of brake cleanPCV valvedi-electric grease for connectorsrtv for the oil pan incase you have to remove it to unbend it

i wouldn't say an exhaust gasket would be a must, but probably a good idea, but then you run the risk of breaking exhaust manifold studs

exhaust would be a good idea, but worst case you can find someone to buy a stock one from (i know i have one laying around)

i dunno about "adjusting" the sidemount to the front. i would definitely say more work than its worth. either buy a front mount or put it in the stock position.

seems the trend w/ these cars to put the bov on the hot pipe. It does offer the most room, but i've always heard its better closer to the throttle body. pick your poison.

not a fan of autometer guages myself, but probably the cheapest solution for boost gauge

i am going to stay at stock boost until i get a metal headgasket, fmic, all those goodies.

thats one less thing on my list. thanks.

i was thinking the timing belt

where do you put the grease? ie: where ever you have to splice the two harnesses together or where you plug them into the engine?

can i remove any of the vacum hoses or little random pieces like you can on the ka? if so what? i want to do this so everything will be more simple under the hood. i am going to remove random things like windshield washer resovoir (mines broken anyways) and pretty much everything except the powersteering, and all the brake and clutch items. Degrease my engine bay etc.

i noticed most of the boost gauges are mechanical, why is that?

thanks for all the help guys!

get an SR20 O2 housing so you can use an SR20 downpipe. a 3" exhaust is good money spent.

You don't need a video. Follow the instructions on srswap.com or heavythrottle.com (same thing). Yes, it's the same as doing an sr swap. It's very straight-forward. You take out the ka, then put in the ca, cut and reconnect about a dozen wires, and that's it. Other than the wiring it's like taking out the ka and putting it back in.

keep in mind that having aftermarket parts on it implies it was probably beaten to death, since over there they don't care how long they last as they won't pass inspection after a few years anyways without tons of work

one advice before you put in your engine replace all heater hose, coolant lines on the stock oil cooler. I had to replace mine recently and it was a pain in the butt. Even if it looks okay just save youself the trouble later on and do it while it is easily accessible especially the rear heater hose.
