hi guys

i have a dying CA18 gearbox (not helping that i have started to give this thing some stick), and the dam TOB from SPEC, as i got to reaplce the ****ty TOB from spec with a OEM nissan one, and my gearbox is vibrating and rattleing, before it was only on deccleration in 3rd and 4th 1800-2500prm, but now its whenever i am in gear, rattles and vibrates, accelerating, deccelerating dont matter, gears go in smooth (except for first when cold)

i was thinking it may be my driveshaft was installed incorrectly, but i think its the gearbox more and more from the sounds..

i have heard and read about people using SR gearbox's with CA bellhousings

just wondering how true this was and whats parts were eneded,

i am guessing you use the CA TOB, bellhousing, flywheel and clutch assembly and only the SR box.

i was thinking of trying sopme better gearbox oil like Royal Purple or Red Line shocl Proof but i think a newer gearbox may be a better solution and put the better gearbox oil in there as this one has seen better days..

What is the exact diffrence between the SR transmission and the CA transmission? I heard they were identical...

they are identical, the ka, sr and ca trannies are all the same. you can use any of them as long as you use the ca bell housing with it. i too will have to swap out my transmission sometime in the future as it grinds going into 3rd about 25% of the time. wish i had kept that ka box as it was mint. oh well, thats life i guess.

Ya, the Gear ratio on the CA is the same as the SR s13,s14, need to change the bellhousing.

I got two 5spd CA trannys, any one wants them let me know, as I get the RWD ca18det engines and convert them to FWD, so the transmission is not used in FWD.

Whenever this topic comes up (not necessarily in this forum) someone states that the gearboxes have different 5th gear ratios. Then someone else tells them they're wrong, all three are identical. Then someone says the SR/KA boxes have the same 5th, but the CA is different. Eventually someone says that the SR/CA have the same 5th but the KA is different. Bleh.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Yes, I can confirm that the CA and the S13 and S14 have the same gear ratio on all gears, I looked up on the all 3 fsms and I confirmed it with a post over a month ago. I will try to find the link on this forum and repost it,

i can without a doubt say that they are all identical. the CA silvia did come with a different (higher ratio) rear end one year but thats a different story. you left out the fact that someone also always goes and finds the specs on each transmission in these discussions and proves they are all the same.

yeah, im guessing this topic has come up a minimum of 20 times and it always ends the exact same way.

edit: this should probably be put in the crossover parts section, if it isnt already. its just been asked so many times i think it warrants it.

I agree with R34 gtr, I hope one of the mods will see it and add it to the crossover parts section.
