I recently rewired my CA thinking my problems were causes by faulty wiring. After doing so I still have some issues.

-Idle fluctuates between 750 and 1000 at idle.-Car has little power. (Get power in spurts)-Engine makes a puttering noise when under boost (sounds kind of like someone is rolling their R's but louder). Revs to redline.-A lot of black smoke with occasional backfire.

Things i have tried.-I have no boost leaks. I recently installed a boost gauge and am running approx. 8psi-It was originally hooked up with out a O2 sensor. I bought one and wired it up. -the Knock sensor was also not wired correctly I wired it up as well.-The ECU is spitting out code 55 in mode 2.

Namely what should i look at next and what could be causing these issues.

Thanks.

check your timing, check your spark timing, and make sure you have good grounds. my motor had an unstable idle too when i got it... it was because whoever swapped it, grounded the coil packs to the valve covers and not the metal thingy between the coils and the head like it's supposed to be.

black smoke means your running rich. are you running an atmospheric bov? recirculated? or none at all? since you bought your car swapped... do you know what parts are in there? is your fuel pump stock? or upgraded? running an upgraded fuel pump without an adjustable fpr, will cause you to run rich.

check your spark plugs too, their condition reveals more about whats going on.

^ Yep, all that jazz.

You may also want to test your ignitor. They tend to go bad and cause weak spark, but if it will rev all the way out, it might not be the case. Are your fuel injectors stock? If someone threw 444s in there, the ECU might be able to pull JUST enough fuel so it will run, but not enough to run well.

444 injectors would inject more fuel than stock if the ECU is unchanged.

IF it's got 440's in there, it would run, but not well.

Right off the top though, it sounds like a jumped cam gear or an ignition problem.
