I just bought a CA18det 240sx. The vaccum line for the boost gauge was attached to the waste gate wih duck tape. Needless to say this fell off and I think it was running open waste gate for a couple of days. On saturday I was at a car gathering and I turn my car off (after semi pushing it down the highway) then turn it back on and a big puff of white smoke came out. Thats when I went searching and found the loose vaccum hose. I did a compression check today and it came up 150 150 45 145....roughly. The car is all stock and it doesn't seem like its down on power any. I think that I might be screwed. What do you thing is problem, is there anything I can do hold on to this car. I am a pizza man so i can not afford done time..... HELP .

If its a doable fix where can I find the parts?

put some oil in cylinder 3 and see if it doesnt pull the compression up. if it does then you need some new rings. If its just 1 cylinder then you could probably get by for a while. i need new rings but am not going to change them until I have to. If its running right just keep a check on the oil and take it somewhat easy and you can go awhile.

Just any oil will work. My friends think that is a spun bearing and the I should do rebuild. It makes a pretty loud knocking sound. Could it be the rod knocking against the walls?

Congratulations, you either burned the fire ring between the #3 and 4 cylinders or (My favorite) you melted the #3 and/or cracked its ring land. You need a new piston and headgasket or possibly more. Good luck with this.....................

My friend has a shop and says that he will do labor for me for $200 as long as I can find the parts. Where on earth do I find CA18det internals. I have search constantly but I can't find anything. Would regular pulsar nx internals work?

How much do you think I should sell it for if I am not able to go through with the fix. The body is 6.5/10 the interior is 8.5/10 and the drivetrain is 9.5/10, as for the motor well you already know.

I miss my Rx7.

Dude, have your friend to at least pull the head and see what your malfunction is. Duct tape on the wastegate's vacuum line doesn't surprise me a bit. There's a lot of people who like a to do quick fixes and forget to inish what they started which results in a gang of loot being dumped to correct what possibly was a very inexpensive repair. Let me no what you find.

I don't what your swap consists of, but with a bad engine, between $1500-$2500 is where you can estimate. Why don't you just get it fixed? They really are great motors, but that can happen to any motor that was rigged the way you described.

Well first, you pop-off the head and inspect it. Next, inspect the pistons and their respective cylinder liners and you will very well find your dramas at this point. If not, remove the remainder of the engine, remove the oil pan, remove the pistons, and inspect the pistons ring lands and groves for crack or ring distortion. I know it sounds like a lot, but it would much easier to just pull the engine and do these things. As for parts, don't worry about that as we can help with acquiring whatever component you need.

Dee runs a CA18 graveyard out of his garage. Impossibly everything that has broken on me has been replaced by stuff from him.

LOL, there's still a few living parts in there somewhere. And there's a CA18DET with 21,XXX miles on it as well , but I haven't decided what to do with it as of yet.

dude i agree with dee...just pull the head and see whats wrong. you could have the car back on the road (depending on whats wrong) in one and half weeks. doesnt make sense to just sell the car....selling it would probably put you down longer
