Can anyone get HKS's or a competent company's cam gears for the CA18? And if so how much?

Tomei gears are better, five securing bolts instead of three, steel instead of aluminum.

mine are the 'old' ones I guess, got them last year for christmas. My grandma actually called some place in Japan and ordered them for me, how cool is that :)

Your grandma is the "Bomb":D My boy that does internet orders got me this funky, but expensive NISMO headgasket for the CA18, but he's stalling heavily on cam gears and I'm nearly ready to assemble my new motor. I got a pair of really nice racing cams for free and i would like to be prepared in the event those adjustments are needed. Damn Paul, I envy you with your cool *** Grandma. I hope you gave her some "dap" for hooking you up:D

old ones have black centers and the bolts are about halfway out from the center, new ones are three spoked aluminum with three bolts around the outer edge. They look great but the idea of threading steel bolts into aluminum and that is keeping my valves from hitting my pistons is not something I am comfortable with. Also the timing marks are silkscreened on, how long will that last.

Back on the topic though try Greddy USA. I think Trust makes camgears for the CA still.

new age HKS cam gears suck. They slip and on a interference engine I would suggest against it. I have them on my mr2 and twice they have slipped on me on the dyno. Throwing things way off. I beleive I have the older HKS (or tomei can't tell) on my CA and they look to be of very high quality.

Look to the 5 bolt unless they are AEM, but AEM have a problem with not being able to adjust because the bolts that are on there are so tight.

So my fears were right. Glad you had a toyota and no parts crashed into each other.
