anybody ever dealt with one of these?i just discovered my my ca18det has some internal water damage which is gonna require a complete rebuild.but in the mean time, i would like to get my 510 running so i can set up the chassis and bring it to the body shop and suchanyway, i found a 88 pulsar with the ca16 and was wondering what anyone thought about me throwing this motor in just to cruise around and setup my wiring and exhaust and such. thanks,

If it's an 88 pulsar SE with a CA16DE, that engine was swapped into that car; for the 88 pulsar SE's came with a CA18DE. The CA16DE is crap-ola for wicked performance unless you are ready to dump some serious bucks into it. Not worth the effort...........

yeah, you're right, its an 87but, its only a few hundred, and my car is setup for a ca already, like i said my turbo motor neads a rebuild, but it has been in the car. the 1.6 would only be temporary, but do you think i should just hold out for a non turbo 1.8? i have had no luck finding one, so if anyone can help out id apreciate it. dont forget, my car is a datsun 510 that weighs about 600 pounds less than a 240

You're going to have to modify the harness to accomodate the CA16DE. If you need the car really bad, then do it. But if it's a recreational vehicle, I'd wait till your motor get done.

Hi,

As boost boy said the car must be an 87 because the ca16de only came in that year, the engine is gutless, 110hp, the harness should be ok with out any mods if I remember correctly, I know the ca18de injector plugs have to be replaced to a ca16de in order to work on the ca18det , also the ca16de 02 sensor has 3 wires, while the ca18de has only one wire, and assuming that you had the ca18det in your car running, then you must have the 3 wire 02 sensor in there as well, so you don't need to replace any plugs.other than that, every thing should be the same, beside rerouting couple wires around.

But it isn't worth the headache and the effort, the ca16de is only good for parts since it has no power man.

Good luck,

The thing is, I don't sit at my computer all day so when I log on and you catch me, I'll give you my undivided attention. Other than that emailing me questions will get you a response as well.

there is a CA20 in a junkyard here with the full harness, etc. I could pull it for ya if you wanted to buy it.

the CA16DE is as good as the CA18DE imho. I've had both in pulsars, and both of them blew up on me! lol! the CA16 is rated at 125hp, the ca18 at 135. the difference is in the torque. CA16 don't break 100lbs/ft. the 18 has like 115. it wouldn't be bad for a beaterl.

The CA18DE was a better engine period. The CA16DE was a bit more rev happy, but it made more noise than power. I also had both of them in my sentras and you guessed, blew them up as well, LOL;)
