Someone on a local forum recently told me that if I were to remove the cams from my CA16DE, I could swap them into my CA18DET and make more power as the CA16DE cams have greater duration and lift on the intake.

Is this true or can anyone dispell this as a myth?

Two CA18 exhaust cams? If I remember right, the CA16 exhaust may have the same profile as the CA18 exhaust so I may have just answered my own question....

Found the cam profiles for each.

I picked that trick up from a 4AG guy. Worked well on my RB20DET, power up top got a kick in the pants.

Would you say it's worth the trouble if you already have the engine out of the car?

Did you use a DE or DET exhaust cam? You should be using the DE cam as the DET will need Adjustable gears to get the most out of it.

Have a read of this;http://www.nissansilvia.com/fo...17&hl=

i don't know why it would make a difference as the intake cams are identical between the DE and DET, it's the exhaust cams that have the different lift and duration; Unless it was EURO specs as the EURO DE is 248 x 8.5. there is more power to be made by timing than lift and duration unless you have a large turbo which is where you need the extra lift and duration.

JPN spec CA18DE S13...In lift - 7.8mmEx lift - 8.5mmIn duration - 240Ex duration - 248In opens - 0 BTDCIn closes - 60 ABDCIn center lobe angle - 120degEx opens - 59 BBDCEx closes - 9 ATDCEx center lobe angle - 115deg

JPN spec CA18DET S13...In lift - 7.8mmEx lift - 8.5mmIn duration - 240Ex duration - 248In opens - 0 BTDCIn closes - 60 ABDCIn center lobe angle - 120degEx opens - 64 BBDCEx closes - 4 ATDCEx center lobe angle - 120deg

EURO spec CA18DE...In lift - 8.5mmEx lift - 8.5mmIn duration - 248Ex duration - 248In opens - 16 BTDCIn closes - 52 ABDCIn center lobe angle - 108degEx opens - 50 BBDCEx closes - 18 ATDCEx center lobe angle - 104deg

I am picking up a set of both CA16 and CA18DE cams this weekend.

Hopefully I will either be able to debunk or prove it this weekend.

I have read tons of threads and some say yes and most say no.
