Hi all, I'm new to the forum and just had some questions on trannies for a CA.. I'm considering getting a front clip from a silvia Ks with an auto.. the guy I am getting it from is also giving me a 5 speed manual transmission from either a CA18et or a CA18E.. I know this will bolt up with no problems, but I was wondering if that transmission was any different from the stock DEt engine and if it will hold up ok.. I used to have a redtop SR a while back, but I decided not to be a lemming/bandwagon jumper and go with the CA.. any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

:D :D :D

NOOOO Kenji!!!! Dont use a CA18ET or CA18E transmission!!!!

My friend bought his clip with an auto transmission and the shop that did his install put a Pulsar flywheel and clutch and a CA18ET transmission.

The transmission bolts on with no problem but its 3-4" way to short, you going to have to cut the shifter hole bigger towards the radio and have a custom shifter made so your hand wont hit the center console. Your going to need a custom driveshaft too.

Its not worth the hassle. This weekend we installed a true CA18DET transmission and he noticed big improvements.

The Pulsar clutch and flywheel works but its smaller than a CA18DET clutch so performance upgrades are a pain.

I was waiting for your response Kevin :pface... I wasn't sure exactly why it didn't work, but I knew it wasn't the best idea!

What kind of gearing differences are there in all these trannys?

I dunno but my friend said the DET transmission felt a lot better. And when I drove his car with the E transmission it seemed way slower than mine.

The difference will be felt because of a mental thing. The CA18DET's gears may be a tad bit longer, but I would assume the CA18ET's would be good drag racing.

Actually I jsut bought my 89 240sx with the ca18et engine and transmission swapped in, the guy had to do a little mods to the shifter but it all works good. The engine is not bad at all. With my t28 and and custom intercooler setup she should boostin good. I wouldnt mind having a ca18det transmission down the road but there is nothing wrong with the ca18et.

I should have the head and intake removed from the engine some time this weekend, you will be the first one to know.

Thank you,

Something didnt feel right. When I had my KA back in my car I was keeping up side by side with his car. Now his car feels like it should.
