Spun a bearing, decided "Why not try to drive home on it!".

Siezed the bearing and kicked a rod thru the block. Haha. I forgot to take pics of the MASSIVE hole lol.

Fo sho. Thus far, all is going well. I was able to remove some brackets and such from the hatch as well as rebuild the p/s rack (which sucked). I'll post up more pics when I am done. I am doing the swap in my home town, so it will be the weekend after my shake-down drive home!

$1300 shipped. But shipping is slow as hell. The importer quoted me 3 days. The shipper changed that to 10. And it is looking to be more like 12...I am pretty pissed.

they sell all the parts for a rack rebuild at like autozone or something, mine leaks quite a bit and has blown boots and its like 500 or something for a new on from frsport so i have just been putting more fluid in every month, and what made it suck so bad? if its rough to do ill just put off on it until i can no longer steer lol

The hardest parts were drilling out the strake (the little metal plug that lockes the end cap in place) and removing the metal spacer. I bought a kit from Nissan that included the end seals and the spacer. Took about an hour once I got the rack out. Getting the rack back in was a total pain as well. But it will be worth it! Mine had gotten so bad that if I ran anything other than straight Lucas Stop Leak, it would totally empty the rack, pump and reserviour is less than 50 miles.

Haha, I don't know man, Ive got plenty of other things I need to do as well as the rear main seal. I'm going the front main / oil pump combo, oil pan seals, timing belt, rod bolts, possibly new bearings, TOB, and I'm fabbing up a new downpipe, Invidia WRX style. I might get around to throwing on my new breaks too, and then its off to get tuned. Its going to be a very busy 9 days, starting tomorrow.

Well, just got back in town. Motor needs to be fine tuned (read retimed) but she made it over 150 miles. Motor came with a mystery twin disk clutch, Nismo Type A FPR, and a modified but blown stock T25. I will upload pics in a bit.

My camera is being dumb so these are all I have at the moment.

Why the swap was needed:

Twin Disk. Looks to be OS Giken. Any thoughts?

With all my goodies swapped over:

Sorry for the crappy BBerry snaps. Once I get my camera working I will upload more.

Sticker placement on timing cover is sweet, haha

Are those eBay aftermarket alt / ps pullies you've got on there? Are they lighter or something?

That clutch looks ancient, like mid-90s ancient. So baller.

CAS is fine, so that makes me happy.

My buddy pulled apart the old motor. Crank is fudged (duh). Head is shot. #2 and #3 are all ok. #4 has some slag on the rod/bearing and a cracked ring land. I thought my motor was down on power.

You broke a ring land too? The pieces of my ring land found their way into the #4 main bearing, which was fun, and all four of my cylinder bores are scored from dry starts because my oil pump is shot. Reason for the oil pump being shot? broken piece of a fire ring (my rings are fine though???) got into the pump and tore up the main gear. As a result of the scored bores, my pistons are all borderline unserviceable.

Oh the fun I have! I can't believe it still ran so smoothly!!

I really wish I had gotten pictures, but I was really rushed to get all the parts put away so my dad could use the workshop to re-do the hall bathroom in our house. I'll take some of the carnage when I go home for the summer. Its pretty awesome looking.

Rico,

I have a strange story for you, i blew up two KA's which were old, they threw rods through the block AFTER i had done all of MY not the previous owner oil changes with full synthetic (royal purple). After buying the CA i did reaserch on oil, i didnt do any rebuild but i change my oil with semi synthetic, and will never use full synthetics again. and it runs happy.

anyways, i was wondering if you figured out the culprit for the unfourtinate kaboom, and if not i urge you to consider looking carefully at your oil choice, I read that older engines that were not started on synthetic and used dino oil all their life, tend to buid up oil sludge, that slowly adjusts your ring gaps and bearing to crank gaps to work with the engine and changes (over tyme), and when you switch to full synthetic, it slowly clears all the guck, and then your clearences are off, stuff starts walking around and then you get the dreaded boom. If you did full rebuild its prolly not gunna be that much of an issue, otherwise, i believe royal purple could be an engine killer.

Long winded, and just a thought, i hope the next one is nicer to you.
