CA smoking due to Turbo?!?!?!

so im about to trade my sc400 for a s13 coupe with a ca. talked to the guy over the phone and hes telling me the car is smoking due to the turbo being bad, and all i would need to do is change out the turbo.... now im a newb:) and im wondering would a ca smoke due to the turbo being bad? and how much of a pain in the *** would it be to swap out the turbo? thx. guys

yeah, def if turbo seals are gone. mine smokes when i get on it, but it also runs rich too. lol

I hope you get it compression tested before you buy it.

It could either be the turbo seals, poor drain back from the turbo, too much oil flow to the turbo, or bad piston rings.

Do a compression test on it and tell us what the numbers are.

yeah most def check compression, but it is a 19 yr old turbo. time to upgrade.

get a leak down test as well. I thought my smoking was from the turbo, compression was alright, but the leak down test showed that oil was blowing up through the rings...:'(
