I recently got a 95 s14 that had aftermarket headers(unsure of brand) and had its smog certification done through a hook up of sorts. I was able to register it, but am wondering what do I need to make it smog legal. The OEM exhaust manifold is not hard to find, but the OEM downpipe is, and I just got a quote from Nissan saying that it sells it for $990!!

Is it smog legal for me to use the stock manifold with an after market downpipe and cat?

Or if anyone has a stock downpipe/cat assembly lying around that would be helpful.

It would be WAY cheaper to get one made at an exhaust shop. I dont know smog stuff very well, but I cant imagine using some aftermarket bits would hurt.

How much do you think a downpipe could be made for??

Anyone got any insight into CA smog regulations?

'95 should be OBDI which means 1 catalytic IIRC. The OBDII's in late '96+ have a catalytic in the downpipe and a second cat after that.

Since you should only need one catalytic(the bolt-in cat in the usual spot under the car right below the driver's seat) you should be able to get a downpipe made or an aftermarket one and you should be able to pass smog as long as you have all the cats that originally came with the car.

i do have some. Tecnically, no, it wont be legal unless it has an E O #(executive order) the little sticker that says its legal. If you were to get say an exoust shop to put one on, it would look not shiny, legal, and probably pass. anything not shiny will get passed just about any cop,as long as its a stock motor, not SR. and as long as it genarally looks stock/ish, no under paid smog tech will actually put effort into looking at it,tho you may get the occasional one who does.

I would get an aftermarket downpipe and then shoot it with some high-temp black or gray paint just to look OEM
