Hey guys!! It'sa me! I don't know how many of you knew me...

Anyway, this was my car

The guys at az240sx.org ended up getting me a new 240 and luckly my ca18det was still ok after the accident (minus the turbo) and I dropped it into the new car with an SR T25. It's running pretty good except it doesn't idle worth $hit and I have no idea what it could be. I've patched up an intercooler boost leak with JB Weld and it's holding ok...and I don't think it's leaking. Anyway, it idles at 500rpm (with 10 h.g.) and then it idles at 1500 (with 14 h.g) at random intervals. If I'm driving and I hit the brakes, it might just die. Engine revs fine...boosts fine...

Dunno what it could be. Any ideas?

Btw, the engine has always done 14hg of vacuum since I did ca16 cam...

glad to hear your alright after that. i read the huge post about it on the az240 site. the way you describe your problem, sounds exactly like a leak somewhere in your intake tract. letting out your vaccum.

Glad to see you back man! I actually think this sounds like the IACV or whatever it is. It's that little round, fat, gold cylnder attached to the side of your intake mani. It's the green thing in Sean's sig actually! But anyway, if you're sure that you don't have ANY vac leaks anywhere (quadruple check, and then have SOMEONELSE quadruple check) that would be the next step. But make for damn sure it's not a vac/boost leak before you start messing with it.

its a green cylinder ryan! (hence it is green in my drawing!) haha, but yeah I have no ideas right now... sounds like a vaccum leak. check the intercooler piping again alfy

rawr!! Code 13 on the ECU. Guess I have a bad temp sensor. Engine still idles high then low then high...If I take the temp sensor plug out, it idles at 700 O_o

I put a Volvo intercooler in and a lot of the $hiytyness died down. Car no longer dies and it feels a whole lot better.

I think the temp sensor is the same as a KA24E. My friend McAdam took it off his KA24 and it's the same part number and everything. I'm gonna buy a new one at BAP. Think I should get a new O2 sensor too. I forget which one will work with our engine...

well chit. I replaced the temp sensor. ECU says code 55 (meaning ok) but the engine still idles at 1500 all the time (even when I beat on the car). I think I am gonna have to unbolt the little green guy and give him a nice beating or something. Any other ideas? I have like 20 days to pass emissions or I lose my free retry

Do you have some holes in your intake manifold? maybe some uncapped, unused nipples. If not, then it has to be that cold start valve nonsense, it's probably stuck open.

i run really rich at idle as well... but is your ecu throwing a code for it? because mine isn't :-\

and on a side note.. what kind of vaccum is everyone else pulling when at idle and the car is at op. temp.?

If you're running at 1500rpm's at idle, then I think the cold start valve is stuck open. Mine did the same thing. You can bypass it, but then it'll be a biatch to start when it's cold outside (mine does anyway). I haven't found a replacement for it yet. It's located under the throttle body, near the thermostat housing.
