The preliminary redistricting map is out from the new commission (finally the voters took redistricting away from the legislature) and it's quite clear that unless the Republicans start getting reasonable and moderate in this state they'll be pretty much out of business. That means they stand to lose five seats in Washington in the House. They have been so extremist but in protected gerrymandered districts that they will now have to overcome the alienation of everyone else to get re-elected.

With our new "top two" primary system and the districts now being drawn without regard to political party we could see a lot of elections coming up that will pit a moderate Democrat against a more liberal Democrat in the final election. That should lead to the state putting a lot more moderates in Sacramento and Washington while getting us away from the polarization that has paralyzed this state and Washington. Hopefully it will also lead to votes for more third parties and independents as we move forward.
