I have never seen an RB motor in person, but it photos it looks as if the CA motors may be related to the RB motors. For example, the L series engines came in 4 cylinder L16,18,20 and the 6 cylinder 2.4 2.6 and 2.8 are basically the same motor with two more cylinders. So is the RB series just a CA with two more cylinders? Anyone know about this?

There are similarities to the RB and CA series motors. The CA is the platform in which nissan designed their Potent RB off of. Nissan used the ideas from their famed CA and form the potent, but cheaply constructed SR series. The RB and CA have similar combustion chamber structures, head design and flow characteristics which results in both their ability to rev wicked to a higher redline. So in short, the CA is a very close relative of the RB series family and since the CA was created first (I could be wrong), it would be deemed as "Lil/Big Poppa". I do stand to be corrected, so any other CA gurus out here fire away.

the ca is more related to the VG30DE and DETT, same combustion chanbers and valvetrain components, the RB and CA share the iron block and alum head etc, and secondary intake runners on i think the RB26's.

the SR is not cheaply made at all, just different technology, and the CA at the time was more expensive to cast the block and other parts etc..

i think all Nissan engines are great, KA24DE(T), E15ET, CA18DET, SR20DET, SR16VE, RB20DET, RB25DET, and of course the massive RB26DETT...all work better and take more jamming than anyother engine except for toyotas.. but i really like nissan cars though... so i'll stick with nissans, my next ride si a Nissan Medalist RB25 w/ T61 hehe...
