My engine is giving me a little bit of a ticking sound when I am either very light or heavy on the throttle. Now, I searched here, but didn't find any Topics on this, but I found another Australian forum, where another CA owner had the same problem, and they suggested to him it was his Lifters. He replaced them and his problem was solved. Is it possible that I am experiencing the same thing, or could be something else?

Thanks

I have an identical noise. After doing my headgasket, an odd rattle appeared comming from the head. Not an injector click either. I know mine is just lifter tap. I need to Seafoam the motor again...Or just pull my lifters and clean them. But I'm too lazy to care, lol.

So its definitely lifter tap? And I don't neccessarily have to chang them, I could just take them out and clean them?

Are you sure where the noise is comming from? Sure it isn't rod knock?

Its usaully the lower rpms, or if I'm really light on the gas going through parking lots, resedential areas, stuff like that.

You have rod knock my friend. You're under load and the thing is rattling? That tells me you have a spun bearing and not a bad lifter. This engine rarely develops bad hydraulic lifters and if it does, you usually end up with a motor that runs funny.

Well I guess that is the case, because the motor definitely runs funny. Damn Is there any hope for the engine?

While parked in Neutral, rev it to ~3000rpm slowly and then slowly let go of the accelerator while listening for any rattling sounds. Big end bearings knock is extremely hearable around the 2500-3000rpm range.

That would be it. Know of anyone else who has had this problem? What can be done to correct this problem?

I DEFINATLY have lifter problems. Lifter noise will sometimes come and go. Mine certainly does. When I first start the car, and the revs are low and the oil pressure is high, it usually doesn't make any noise. Also, after it's warmed up, the ticking will come and go on it's own. Rod knock will do it all the time. Mine didn't do this until after I had the motor rebuilt either. It's more irritating than anything else.

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR!!!

If you have realized the problem early you can get away with it for an relatively inexpensive excercise by just changing the big end bearings with engine in the car.

Else you'll have to regound/machine the crankshaft too and I believe you need to take the motor out (afaik) and is a costly excercise if your getting someone to do it for you

G'luck.

Thanks. I'll put her on ice for now, and look into gettting some new bearings.

Thanks for all the help.
