Hey guys wuts up. I am currently in a amrket for a SR20DET, I know a lot about the engine and have done a lot of research on it. I was also one of those people that has considered a KA-T project on my KAE. Today as I was on NICO I decided to check out the CA forums and see how things are going. As through out the day Iv been reading up about the CA I kinda started to like the engine giving the fact that I used to won a 86 200sx with a CA18ET in it and love the engine and the car untill some jack *** decided to tottal it . now my question is. I was going to pay a local shop here for whom my friend works to do my swap for me, but they would also upgrade my whole fuel system, do the front mount upgrade and a T28 upgrade. All I really was looking for 13's on my car. and I got qouted for aroun 6.5gs for everything. Now I was wondering if I was going to get a CA. And do all the same upgrades to it. Would it come out cheaper? I would also like the CA cause I have a 1990 and my car came with all 180sx badges on it. So having the CA in it too will just complete the goal Im going for and having as close to a original 180 and possible. Except of course for the steering wheel side :P. Any answers or anything would be appriciated. Thank you.

well if you want it cheaper skip the damn Speed shop tuner bling shop and do the damn work yourself ... now you can talk about saving money.

Yes a ca18det with the same mod because the engine is around 1g cheaper than a sr20det ( maybe im wrong i never look at sr20det). Now its just a matter of choice like everytime ...

the goal is to have fun ... just decide yourself on what engine you want. Its your project soo its your choice not other people choices.

goood luck

For $6500, I could build you a beast CA with all the fancy fixings except suspension. Upgrading to T28 and spending that kinda money is crazy. You might come out better doing it yourself.

READ up some more on the Ca, not near as many people have a CA( i live in JAX FL, we have487878y584 SR's, 3 or 4 KA'Ts, 1 RB25 and im the only CA.

Do you like being different? Maybe suprise someone when you open the hood......Pick which motor you want to work on, where you are trying to take your car.

BOOST BOY: HOw much would a Built CA Longblock cost.....?

I would make sure you can handle a 13 second car before you just go willy nilly into crazy performance like that... I know you are 22 and all, but I can barely handle a 12 second car and Ive was in the KA game for a while.

I second having fun and If you want power off the line, this motor is known for being sluggish in the low end. Im not down-talking it though. A better head design and simple computer make for easy tuning and upgrades for sure!

This would all depend on how solid a bottom you want to withstand x-amount hp. With a simple re-ringing, crank polishing, new oil pump and bearings as well as having the whole lower end balanced, I'm sure your stock rods and crank can take nearly 500+whp. But if I had to build one for someone, Let's see:

Oil pump= $200

New rings= $100

balance, light honing, cleaning=$200

get rods re-shotpeened= $100

New water pump= $45

Disassembly/disassembly= $200

So I guess easily $1000 or so, but that's how it is when you pay someone to do it for you.
