After reading numerous posts about people wanting to pass emissions in the hell hold of california with a turbo 240, it seems that nobody has considered the actual legal way to do it.

1st an engine swap can be approved in cali using a newer model engine in an older car so long as all emissions devices remain in tact. ( Install a 96-98 KA24DE )

2nd Install Greddys 96-98 kit which seems to have an EO number.

Has nobody considered this ?

eo IS NOT certified yet. plus THE greddy KIT WILL WORK ON A 1995.The emange jsut taps into the MAF and FUel injectors.. NOTHING ELSE. They jsut say 1996-1998 so they cna get a CARB approval

Right, but you'd need a 96-98 "engine" to them to pass CARB requirements, which i guess would have to be after it is certified, sorry I didnt know it wasnt yet. Either way, it can work on a 95 all you want, or a 94, 93, etc, but you would pretty much have to have obdII etc so to them it is a 96-98 engine swap, to get an earlier car smog legal in their eyes.

The idea keeps getting shot down on these boards. I have essentially given up trying to tout a legal kit.

I doubt anyone is trying to shoot the idea down. But the reality is that there are no CARB legal kits available at this time from any company. So swapping in other KA's and such are pointless for the purpose of passing smog. If Greddy does receive certification then this option becomes available as a street legal solution.
