Hello, everyone,

I didn't find a lot about gearboxes here, so just wanted to ask.. How different is Ca18det engines gearbox from Ka24de engines gearbox? Couple of friends told me that the swap wouldn't be difficult providing that I leave the bellhousing from the KA engine.

The gearboxes are the same exept for the bellhouse. So if you have a ka24de bellhouse it's just to swap it onto the ca18det gearbox.

FS5W71C is the gearbox model for ca-, ka-, and sr- equipped 240sx's. as stated, the only difference is the bellhousing. the only exception is the european 200sx equipped with the ca18det. that gear box had taller 1st-3rd, same 4th, and a slightly shorter 5th.

this transmission can also be found in the vg30e non-turbo z31's as well as later models of the s12.

Dexter: Wow Thanks!! Tha narroed my search circle a lot..Emm.. Maybe you could answer to another question of mine? Are the cluch packs of KA and CA also the same?

You see I'm locadted in Europe and I have the 1990 Ka24de.. Great car and all, but - some problems with finding parts for it, especially for engine and transmition.. Because the codes do differ when dealers search the catalogues.. Or they just send me sraight away saying that they do not order anything for KA's .. Maybe you could tell me where I could find somewhat universal catalogue for Sx'es and their parts? (If there is such a thing..) So that I maybe could just use parts from other models like tramsition and cluch pack in my case..

Hi guys.. I'm still tempering with my gearbox.. So I'll try to be breaf... Wha does the "O.D. position switch" on KA's gearbox? Because the gearbox I took from CA doesn't have one?? Do I rally need the overdrive switch and what are the problems if the one is not connected?

Thanks for your answers in advance!

first, i'm not sure about the differences in clutches. when i had the ka engine out of my vert, i should have checked the flywheel against the ca just to see those differences. i do not have a ca clutch or pressure plate, so i couldn't tell you from first hand experience.

to address your second question: are talking about the automatic ka transmission? not being a real transmission expert, i'm not exactly sure what all the switches are for. on my 5-speed swap, the only sensors i have hooked up are the speed sensor and... soemthing else. it seems to be fine.

hopefully someone with a little more experience and knowledge will chime in here.

no I have a manual transmition.. But as much as I found out, the O.D. position switch from all the speculations ir that it switches the cpu to go on an economic mode, or smth like that.. Basically it lets you consume a little less fuel on 5th gear. Anyway people told me that this is not a big deal, so if I want I can either not connect it, or just place a hand switch for my self in side the cars ineterior, so that could turn that swith manually.. Althogh this idea sounds kind of odd to me personally :/ Any ideas?
