i have the same problem

as soon as i get to 4.5k it feels like the motor tripped and the RPM fly over to redline

float: where would the detonation sensor plug be? i bought the car with the motor in it and there are various plugs lying around

wait so you see your tach go to redline when it happens? sounds like bad CAS signal and the ECU suddenly thinks you've done some crazy RPMs

sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Is the loss of power accompanied by a very rapid stumbling? I has a GTS-4 that did the same thing and the pump was weak.

Thanks for the input. I will check the o2 sensor and water temp sensor when I get home today.I thought it might be something with the o2 because it runs very rich all of the time.

is it boosting fine.. ? Mine was boosting till 5-6 psi and the car was getting a big power drop like hitting a wall .. it was a boost leak.. check all your piping

it is boosting up to 10 psi and holding there. It reaches 10psi at around 2500rpm and pulls strong until it hits about 4000 then it feels like just loses power.

This weekend I went over every thing except the pump.I talked to a local guy that works with sr's and rb's and he seems to think that my fuel pump is not suppling enough when the car hits batch fire.So that will be my next thing to change when I get the cash for it.

The most important thing that seems to have been over-looked is running a diagnostic on your ecu. Until you do that, you'll be probing your car for all the suggestions that these fine CA gurus came up with. I'm sure if you check your ecu, it will tell you what you did wrong. My guess is your car is not grounded correctly, which slows the fuel pump, which also weakens the ignition in the higher rpm range that makes nearly impossible to completely burn the fuel. When you see the tach flying all over the place like that, it's usually ignition or ground related; but you can't rule out all of the other factors as well.

I have done the diagnostic on the car and it came back clear. My rpms are not flying all over the place they go through the normal motions.I did not think about the grounds but I will check them tonight.

I used a wide band on the car yesterday and it is leaning out at about 3700 rpm so i am pretty sure that it will end up being the fuel pump but I still have to test the fuel pressure tonight. If I need to replace the fuel pump is there any recomendations on the one that I should get and where is a good place to get one from?

Most people usually get a walbro fuel pump on ebay for cheap ($90 shipped) but also other people use 300ZX fuel pumps as well. People have there own opinions on the walbro but I never had one problem with mine in my SR.
