hey everyone my mate has got a 180 sx wit the ca in it and was drivin it prety hard and well anyways it has now got a knocking sound in it umm not quiet sure where its coming from we think it is the bottom end but alot of ppl say its the turbo but it is is still spooling properly and is way to loud for a turbo knock but then the odd thing is that the knockin only comes in at 2500 rpm and that is when the turbo starts spooling so any sudjestions on wat it may be would be appriciated

and if it is the bottom end we r goin to put the rb20det in it does anyone know how hard it is to do we have heard it will be pretty easy apart from the wiring is this correct

thanks alot for the help

You probabally spun a main/rod bearing. I don't know why a turbo would knock. At the least, the motor will need torn down and rebuilt.

it sounds like you spun a rod bearing (big end) or something. dont worry, it happens to the best of us. you can either rebuild it (like i did) or you can go with your rb20.

the rb20 will drop right in if you use the engine crossmember from the skyline. let me just say that ive ridden in a 240sx with a rb20det in it and only intake, exhaust and the boost turned up to about 9 pounds and it is definately the fastest feeling car i have ever ridden in. thats saying alot since ive got friends with evo 8's, svt mustangs, audi s4's (the new ones), turbo civics, etc.

cheers thanks alot tim that is a great help cause seriously were not that keen to to fix up the ca we dnt think it is worth it . and we feel like a bit of a challenge and im pretty sure dropping the rb in it will be,

now we can buy a rb20det including the turbo, manifold, full wiring lume, gearbox, tail shaft, computer radiator and cross member for $1,550 now thats quite good i thort, the motor has had brand new cams in it, it came out of a 32 that was in a smash wit only 80 thousand kms on it wich means the engine has done basicly no work so im pretty sure we r goin to get it.

thanks heaps tim ur a legend man

Some nuts could have come loose. There's a hole somewhere, so there's a leak. It doesn't matter if it's after the turbo, and no exhaust leak would cause knocking.

no i didnt think so but who cares anymore we r goin to put the rb in it to me its just not worth fixing it and like tim said he went in one and said it hammars i would rather chuck another 2000 in it and have a nice fast reliable car then muck around fixing the ca we will probably end up fixing it up and selling it the 5spd and wiring lume and cross member tail shaft and all that for like 1000 so if u know anyones that wants it let me know
