why not just overhaul the one you have? if you just get another engine you still have a mysterious used engine that might fail on you as well.

the first 3 dont seem too horrible, not sure what correct specs for the ca are. it looks like number 4 is the problem. hows the head gasket look? it may be starting to go at the back of the engine causing #4 to be low and #3 to be slightly below the others. also, try putting oil in the combustion chambers and running another test, if it goes up, the rings are bad.

i wouldnt go as far as saying you need a new block, even in the worst case scenario you can bore the old one out a little bit and oversize the rings or get some new pistons-which i couldnt imagine costing all that much more than a new block.

i can sympathize, i know how it feels to be in high school and have your car die on you - im in highschool and this car just loooooves to let me down when i need it most. i love it though, ill probably keep it until the day i die.

by the way the motor is in my car now and running fine with good compression

did you not know the motor was blown? because even I knew it was... it clearly stated in the ebay auction he had under 150 psi for all cylinders:(

Looking at your compression #s and seeing the bad cylinder is #4 tells me that someone partially melted the piston. I owuld be really curious to inspect the other pistons as well because I've done this before and found the other pistons to look good on the piston's crown, but the piston's ringlands are more than likely cracked as well.

Sounds like a head gasket to me. Thats cheaper and eaiser than rings. I had 155 across the board and that was on a cold motor. I should recheck it tonight when it's warm and see how it does...

Hey FlaS13, you haven't told us what was the symptoms of your possibly blown motor.

head gasket is easy enough to confirm.

It's simple enough to find out what happened without tearing anything down. Take it to a shop that knows how to do a leak down test.

But a leakdown doesn't isolate the rings or the headgasket, only the cylnder...

bubbles in the radiator, oil in the radiator, coolant in the oil or spiking coolant temp under boost confirm a head gasket.

It can also isolate the leak. Excessive pressure in the cases means the rings are leaking, air escaping thru the head means bad headgasket or valve seals (on a DSM anyway). Otherwise a leak down would be no more useful than a compression test.

I think someone stateside does, but I heard they have a problem with them clearing the piston oil squirters.

you can get companies to make them for you. dont know what people have in their cars but im assuming you could go with weisco or je or something. im guessing you can get any company to make you pistons if you tell them the exact dimensions you need. it shouldnt cost you that much to do if you shop conciously. id go with jun, tomei, hks or nismo but this is coming from someone with no sense of money management and no need to go buy them.

I ordered mine through racengeering which got them made through wiseco 2 years in a row.

Sometimes I wish I had an SR, just so it would be easy to get parts for it. But then I take my little CA for a drive and I forget all about it!

I always say, if you know you're going to want more performance, get the stuff done in advance; meaning take $400 and get the pistons made now while your car is running sweet and if you never decide to change the pistons, you could always sell them to another CA buff.

I know, but I'm low on dough flow and I'm more worried about suspension now. This 210,000 mile suspension is really showing it's age.

Ohh yes I do. My newly built Elantra is a floater. Every time I get aggressive, I get motion sickness and have thoughts of possibly bouncing clean off the highway.

I have 142,000, but I just put in a more powerful motor and i've disturbed the alignment and everything else. Now the suspension is showing off its wear in the worst way.

It's still pretty stable at high speeds, but the body roll in the tight turn kills me.
