i guess you could tell by the oil filter sometimes? Mine had a pitwork oil filter and pitwork belts... that kinda scared me a bit because it makes me think it had been ragged out since the D1 drifters in japan use that brand

1) Motors imported from Japan are far more likely to have low miles on them. There's an emissions tax in Japan that rises based on car age (or something like that), so there's strong encouragement to scrap cars early.

2) Some (British?) of the non-japan ECUs are set up to work without an O2 sensor (and no catalytic converter), which wouldn't exactly be ideal. I forget which ECU numbers they are but someone can tell you. That will function well enough but good luck passing a smog test. You could always source a JDM ECU and run the missing wires for the O2 sensor if you like.

The new UK spec motors also have a 4 port head ont he intake side vs. an 8 port head that the Jspec and USspec CA's got.

lol, they're all 16v, the UK motors just have 4 intake ports where the japanese motors have 8. look on your intake manifold. do you have 8 holes going into the head, or 4? chances are you have 8. i have honestly never heard of a euro spec motor being imported.
