This looks like it should be an EXCELLENT game. It's about time the DS got an FPS that was actually worth playing. Metroid Hunters was fun but paper-thin, Dementium was atmospheric but respawning monsters ruined it. This game cites games like Doom, Quake, and Half Life as inspiration and you can see evidence of that in the video. The visuals are impressive for the DS, especially the lighting (see the flashlight sequence at the end of the video).

The developers said they'll be leaving the controls fully customizable, so with the DS's touch screen this has the potential to be one of the best-controlling portable shooters in history. I hope the gameplay backs up the visuals and control versatility.

Even though the developer (No Way Studios) is a new studio and CORE is their first project, it sounds to me from interviews I've read that they really know what they're doing. At the very least, they know their way around the FPS genre, which is what really matters here.

Wow game looks good. I could imagine being bored and having something this awesome at my finger tips...

My only issue with FPS on DS is the stupid touch screen. The D-buttons handle moving forward, back and strafe right, left...

But the screen takes care of the rotating and looking up and down.It makes for a very awkward experience. The only way to play is on a table and you cant play it in your hands.

DS needs to find a way to have full range of movement without using the touch screen.

Hahaha, Awkward is the last word I'd chose to describe that setup. "Perfect" is what comes to mind for me. When I first saw the DS early on in it's development, this setup is one of the things I saw most clearly in it's potential. It works wonderfully for Metroid Hunters and Dimentium. Plus there are plenty of non FPS games that use the d-pad plus stylus. And you can can indeed play it in your hands. That's the ENTIRE reason for the wrist strap stylus.Nintendo stuck that stylus on there just for games like this one.

You stick the stylus on your thumb and use it on the touch screen exactly like an analog stick. Very very natural, leaves your fingers on both shoulder buttons, and lets you hold the DS securely. Works exactly like a big console controller. You can even swap thumbs and use the ABXY buttons to move and steer with your left thumb if that suits you better.

That looks difficultAlso COD4 used a trigger for the aim and a trigger for shooting. So I needed to use two of the top buttons all while aiming so I built a hate for the FPS on DS.

You have any video of people using the wrist strap stylus?

Here's a video showing the thumb stylus in use.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWkfrNycX4Y

Yeah, Dimentium uses both triggers, too. Right trigger switches to the flashlight and back to your weapon, left trigger fires and switches the flashlight on and off. It wouldn't work well at all with the pen stylus.

Oddly, only the original DS came with the wrist strap/thumb stylus. Lite and DSi owners have to buy it separately. Another option is this thingy: http://www.thylus.com/ I don't see it being quite as good as the real DS thumb stylus since the real one is rounded which allows you to use the face buttons more easily and (more importantly) allows you to rock your thumb for fine, precise commands.

Your right that does work out rather well. One thing I noticed is that all your buttons were touch screen...During COD4 play I remember using the "ABXY" buttons but with the thumb stylus it looks like it wouldn't be an issue.

I wish I have a thumb stylus when I was at work frustrated playing COD4 with a pen stylus...

EDIT: Side note...

Have you ever checked this out?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...lated

So the release date for this game appears to be ethereal. Gamestop.com showed pre-orders shipping yesterday until yesterday, at which point the date changed to the middle of NEXT month. The official website shows nothing solid, just Q2 '09. Various other websites show all sorts of varied dates. Wikipedia still shows it as yesterday without any citations to show where they got that fact. I wonder if it will ever actually come out.

This looks like a neat game to try. I never knew about the thumb stylus either, I may have to pick that up, I would find that handy for a few games i have.
