Seeing as no one has replied, I'll just post what I know. From what I have read, the recirculation type valve is better than a BOV for a couple reasons.

-with a BOV you lose some of the metered air that's in the intake tract-a recirc valve is better because it does exactly as it says, it puts the air back into the intake side of the turbo and you don't stall out the turbine wheel

I think if you left both on, the recirc valve would become sort of useless as you'd be bleeding off the pressure to the outside world so there wouldn't be anything to recirculate.

I moved this to the classic Z forum (which includes Z31's) so that you'll get a little more action on it.

You don't have to remove it. But why are you adding a BOV in the first place?

a recirculator valve is the same thing as a bov except the recirculator valve returns the air back to the system so it doesnt run super rich on deaccell

you planning on running straight turbo(no filter) with a map based system? if not dont change the recirc valve. just add more recirc's if your having problems with compressor surge

Stock Z31 doesn't have a BOV or recirc valve. It does have a pop off valve (or emergency relief valve) on the intake plenum that opens at about 8psi in case the wastegate of the turbo fails and tries to overboost.

and if you want to tun more boost you can plug the stock pop pff valve, but before you turn up the boost an intercooler will keep things a bit safer
